New Maruti WagonR 2018

New-generation Maruti Wagon R is reported to launch early next year.

Maruti Suzuki is on a roll. After the successful launch of the new-generation Drize and Swift, the Indo-Japanese carmaker is now gearing up for two big products of the year – the new Ertiga MPV and the new WagonR hatchback. While the former is ready to hit roads in coming days, the latter one is reported to hit showrooms early next year. The new Maruti WagonR 2018, which is currently in its testing phase, will witness comprehensive aesthetic and feature updgrades. For people not in the known, Suzuki has already launched the new generation WagonR and WagonR Stingray in the Japanese market. Though, India-spec model will be different from the Japanese models.

Similar to the current model, the new Maruti WagonR 2018 will feature the tall-boy design. Though, it will get some crossover-ish styling bits along with a high ground clearance. Interior will have more space and features to offer with slightly better material quality. Reports suggest that the 2018 WagonR will underpin the company’s new lightweight HEARTECT platform. The new generation Wagon R might also get a new touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone integration as we have seen in the new Swift. Engine setup of the 2018 Maruti WagonR might remain unchanged. That means, it will continue to carry the 67bhp, 1.0-litre K-Series petrol unit with a 5-speed manual and AGS gearbox options. Favored for its practicality, spacious cabin and efficient engine, the WagonR achieved a sales milestone of 20 lakh units in India. In fact, the hatchback has been among the top five bestselling cars in the country from last a decade. First launched in 1993, this tall-boy attracted first time buyers and crossed its first million sales in 2011. It is also popular among fleet owners that further enhance its sales figures.

If reports are to be believed, Maruti Suzuki will halt production of the existing WagonR till November, 2018. However, the commercial model will continue to be manufactured at the plant. With the arrival of new models like Tata Tiago and Renault Kwid, the competition in the small car segment gets fierce. In order to keep up its game, Maruti Suzuki is considering a generation change for its highly-popular WagonR hatchback. The new-generation model will sport an all-new design with better interior quality, more features and efficient powertrains. All these merits will surely make the new WagonR slightly more expensive than the outgoing model. New Maruti WagonR 2018 Exterior

Unlike the current generation, the 2018 Maruti Wagon R will carry an all-new design language and bold stance giving it a more refreshing look. However, there is no indication whether the India-bound model will follow the same design and styling principles used for the Japan-spec version. The signature tall-boy stance and boxy design elements of the hatchback will remain intact.

Similar to the JDM-spec Suzuki WagonR Stingray, the India-spec version will get a completely revised front fascia. The hatchback will feature sweptback headlamps, a new front grille, more sculpted bumper and a longer bonnet. The ORVMs will be shifted on the door instead of the pillar like the outgoing Wagon R. What add more to its new side look are the flared fenders and a prominent muscular line running across the length of the car. In terms of proportion, the 2018 Maruti Wagon R could be slightly bigger than the current generation model. Read – Maruti Grand Vitara SUV India Launch On The Cards

This system could be compatible to the smartphone apps such as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

With respect to safety, the new Maruti Wagon R 2018 will be better than the current generation. The Indo-Japanese carmaker might offer ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake force distribution) and dual front airbags as standard across the carline. Similar to Maruti Suzuki’s new breed cars, the new-generation WagonR will meet the new safety norms.

The the Japan-spec 2018 WagonR, on the other hand, comes loaded with a tablet-like touchscreen infotainment system placed below the new dashboard with a centre-mounted instrument cluster.
