Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest passenger carmaker, has some really big plans for the Indian market. The Indo-Japanese carmaker kick started 2019 with the launch of third-generation Maruti Suzuki WagonR, followed by the Baleno facelift. The company will further expand its product portfolio with a range of new models in the next couple of years. 1. Maruti Future S

The first model in our list of upcoming Maruti cars is the new Future S concept that broke cover at the Delhi Auto Expo 2018. The company says that the Maruti Suzuki Future S concept previews Maruti’s future compact car design and shows the company’s next level of “design evolution” in terms of proportions, body sculpting and fusing body patterns and colours. The carmaker has confirmed that the production version of the Future S will hit showrooms during 2019 festive season. In Maruti’s product lineup, this new mini SUV will sit below the Vitara Brezza compact SUV and take on the cars like Mahindra KUV100 and Hyundai’s upcoming compact car.

Measuring 200mm shorter than the Vitara Brezza, the Maruti Future S concept features all-new LED headlamps with LED DRLs, thin chrome grille, a high bonnet line, sloping roofline and vertical A-pillar along with the conventional SUV-like characters. The production version of the Future S will underpins Suzuki’s lightweight “HEARTECT” platform that has already been used in Maruti’s new breed cars including new Swift, Dzire, Ertiga and new WagonR. 2. New Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara

The Grand Vitara is surely one of the much-awaited new upcoming Maruti cars in India. While there is no official word about its launch timeline, it’s likely to hit roads sometime in 2019 or 2020. The SUV could be offered with two seating layout – 5-seats and 7-seats. While the standard 5-seater version will be positioned above the S-Cross and lock horns against the Hyundai Creta, the 7-seater model will be stacked up against the Mahindra XUV500 and Tata Hexa. Media reports suggest that Maruti Suzuki India is planning to bring a bigger version of the Grand Maruti Suzuki Vitara.

Considering that Suzuki sells Vitara in overseas markets, it is expected to bring the same model for the Indian market. Aiming to curb its manufacturing pricing, Maruti Suzuki will focus to achieve higher level of localization. The SUV might also share most of its components from the existing Maruti cars. For instance, it might shares platform with the Vitara Brezza. Under the hood, the Maruti Grand Vitara is likely to house the Suzuki’s global 1.6-litre petrol or the turbocharged 1.4-litre petrol unit. 3. Maruti Vitara Brezza Petrol

Aiming to further boost the Vitara Brezza sales, Maruti Suzuki is planning to introduce the petrol iteration of the compact SUV. Currently, the Vitara Brezza is available only with a 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine generating a peak power of 89bhp and 200Nm of torque. The petrol variant, on the other hand, will derive its power from a new 1.0-litre Boosterjet engine pushing out a maximum power output of 100bhp against 150Nm of torque. It’s the same engine that does duty in the Baleno RS.

Media reports suggest that Maruti Suzuki could also use its 1.2-litre unit that’s good enough for 83bhp and 110Nm of torque. Unlike the diesel engine that comes only with a manual gearbox, the petrol unit could receive an AMT unit. Though, the design and dimensions of the vehicle will remain unchanged. 4. New Maruti Wagon R 7-seater

Maruti Suzuki is reportedly working on the 7-seater version of the Wagon R hatchback. Likely to be called the Solio, the new model will be sold exclusively through NEXA premium dealership network. In fact, the Solio has been spotted multiple times while testing on Indian roads. Maruti is aiming to utilise the new Wagon R’s platform, which is compatible enough to accommodate a 7-seater model. While the wheelbase will remain the same, the length will be increased slightly to accommodate third row of seats.

The new Wagon R 7-seater model will challenge the likes of Datsun GO+ and the upcoming Renault Triber. It will sit under 4 meter in length and will qualify to avail the tax benefits offered by government on vehicles measuring under 4 meter. 5. Maruti Suzuki Jimny

Maruti Suzuki Jimny will be one of the several other upcoming Maruti cars that will make its way to India in coming years. The new-generation Jimny was first previewed at the Tokyo Auto Salon in January, 2017. Globally, the SUV will be offered with two doors and a short wheelbase. On the contrary, the extended wheelbase version with four-doors could be launched in India. Underpinning the body-on-frame chassis, the Maruti Jimny features large front grille, round-shaped headlamps, squared-off wheel arches, large alloys and sporty rear design.

Inside, the SUV might feature a newly-designed dashboard, steering wheel, new AC vents and buttons. Feature such as Suzuki’s SmartPlay infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be restricted to the high-spec trim. For power, the India-spec Jimny might use Suzuki’s 1.0-litre Boosterjet and the powerful 1.4-liytre Boosterjet engines. 6. Maruti Swift RS

The next in our list of upcoming Maruti cars in India is the performance version of the Swift hatchback – the Maruti Suzuki Swift RS. Prior to its official launch, the carmaker has started testing the hot hatch on Indian roads. The Maruti Suzuki Swift RS model will be locally developed and will feature a locally develop turbocharged engine. Power for the hot hatch will come from a 1.0-litre Boosterjet engine that also does duty in the Baleno RS. This motor dishes out a maximum power of 100.5bhp and 150Nm of torque. The hatchback will also receive some design changes in the form of revised bumper, gloss black front grille, new alloys, newly-designed C-pillar, a black diffuser with twin exhausts and sporty rear bumper with gloss black finish. 7. Maruti Ertiga Crossover

This is another model among the all-new Upcoming Maruti cars that will join the line-up by the end of this year.  The Ertiga based crossover is being developed under the YHB codename and will be one of the three new models in its UV range. The concept version of the Ertiga crossover was first previewed in 2015 at the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS). Similar to the regular model, the crossover version will be built on the HEARTECT platform.

The vehicle is likely to feature new body graphics along with revised bumpers, bigger alloy wheels, additional body cladding and lots of chrome. The Maruti Ertiga crossover will borrow most of its styling cues from the regular model. One must note that YHB will be larger than its donor MPV and will pack in additional kit. 8. Maruti S-Cross Petrol

The last in our list of upcoming Maruti cars is the petrol version of the S-Cross crossover. This crossover is currently available in a diesel avatar only. The vehicle comes with a 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine boosted with Suzuki’s SHVS mild-hybrid system. The company will soon introduce a petrol engine in the S-Cross. The new Maruti S-Cross petrol will derive its power from a new 1.5-litre engine that also powers the new Ertiga and Ciaz. Coupled with Suzuki’s mild-hybrid system, this engine churns out 104bhp of power and 138Nm of torque.

9. New Maruti Celerio

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio will (codenamed Maruti YNC) is ready to enter its second-generation during 2020 festive season. Similar to the new WagonR, the 2020 Maruti Celerio will be based on the new HEARTECT platform. With new architecture, the hatchback will be lighter, safer and more efficient than the current model. It might get a 7.0-inch touchscreen SmartPlay infotainment system as we have seen on the new WagonR.

The carmaker will also improve its safety quotient by offering features such as driver airbag, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, driver and front passenger seat belt reminder and speed alert system as standard. Powertrain of the new Maruti Celerio 2020 is likely to be carried over from the new-generation WagonR. The hatchback might derive its power from a BS6-ready 1.2L, four-cylinder K12M petrol engine. The CNG fuel kit might also be on offer. For performing transmission duties, the hatchback might get a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AGS unit.
