Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest passenger carmaker, has some really big plans for the Indian market. While the Maruti Swift hatchback and Ertiga MPV witnessed a generation change this year, the Ciaz mid-size sedan received its first mid-life update. Now, the Indo-Japanese carmaker will further expand its product portfolio with a range of new models in the next couple of years. 1. Maruti Future S

The first model in our list of upcoming Maruti cars is the new Future S concept that had its world premiere at the Delhi Auto Expo 2018. The company says that the Maruti Suzuki Future S concept previews Maruti’s future compact car design and shows the company’s next level of “design evolution” in terms of proportions, body sculpting and fusing body patterns and colours. If reports are to be believed, the production version of the Future S is expected to arrive in the market sometime next year. In Maruti’s product lineup, this new mini SUV will sit below the Vitara Brezza compact SUV and gun up straight against the Mahindra KUV100 and Hyundai’s upcoming compact car.

Measuring 200mm shorter than the Vitara Brezza, the Maruti Future S concept features all-new LED headlamps with LED DRLs, thin chrome grille, a high bonnet line, sloping roofline and vertical A-pillar along with the conventional SUV-like characters. The production version of the Future S will be based on Suzuki’s lightweight “HEARTECT” platform that also underpins Maruti’s new breed cars including new Swift and Dzire. While the technical details of the car yet to be revealed, it is likely feature a 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine.

2. New Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara

The Grand Vitara is surely one of the much-awaited new upcoming Maruti cars in India. Though there is no official word about its launch, the SUV is expected to come with two seating layout – 5-seats and 7-seats. While the standard 5-seater version will be positioned above the S-Cross and face challenge from the Hyundai Creta, its 7-seater model will take on the cars like Mahindra XUV500 and Tata Hexa. Media reports suggest that Maruti Suzuki India is planning to bring a bigger version of the Grand Maruti Suzuki Vitara.

Considering that Suzuki sells Vitara in overseas markets, it is expected to bring the same model for the Indian market. Aiming to curb its manufacturing pricing, Maruti Suzuki will focus to achieve higher level of localization. The SUV might also share most of its components from the existing Maruti cars. For instance, it might underpin the Vitara Brezza’s platform. Under the hood, the Maruti Grand Vitara is likely to house the Fiat-sourced 1.6-litre Multijet diesel engine and Suzuki’s global 1.6-litre petrol or the turbocharged 1.4-litre petrol unit. 3. Maruti Vitara Brezza Petrol

Aiming to further boost the Vitara Brezza sales, Maruti Suzuki is planning to introduce the petrol iteration of the compact SUV. Currently, the Vitara Brezza is available only with a 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine generating a peak power of 89bhp and 200Nm of torque. The petrol variant, on the other hand, will derive its power from a new 1.0-litre Boosterjet engine pushing out a maximum power output of 100bhp against 150Nm of torque. It’s the same engine that does duty in the Baleno RS. Media reports suggest that Maruti Suzuki could also use its 1.2-litre unit that’s good enough for 83bhp and 110Nm of torque. 4. New-generation Maruti Wagon R

Maruti WagonR is one of the top-selling hatchbacks in India. The Indo-Japanese carmaker will soon give a generation change to the WagonR with completely new design and a pack of comfort and safety features. In order to make the new Maruti WagonR complaint to the new safety norms, the company will re-engineer its existing platform instead of using the new HEARTECT architecture. Unlike the Japan-spec model, the India-bound WagonR will have more compact dimensions. Though, it will continue to feature the tall boy and boxy stance. Face of the hatchback will be completely revised with new grille, a longer bonnet, re-designed bumper and sweptback headlights.

With an aim to make it a safer machine, the Indo-Japanese carmaker will offer ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake force distribution and dual airbags as standard safety fitments. The list of features might also include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. At the engine front, the new Maruti WagonR 2018 will get the same 1.0-litre, three-cylinder K-series petrol motor churning out a maximum power of 67bhp and 91Nm of torque. 5. New Maruti Alto 800

Similar to the other prominent upcoming Maruti cars like Swift, this one will also see radical changes on the outside and inside. Interior is also likely to be classed up with better material quality and a pack of new connectivity and comfort features. 6. Maruti Suzuki Jimny

Maruti Suzuki Jimny will be one of the several other upcoming Maruti cars that will make its way to India in coming years. The new-generation Jimny was first previewed at the Tokyo Auto Salon in January, 2017. Globally, the SUV will be offered with two doors and a short wheelbase. On the contrary, the extended wheelbase version with four-doors could be launched in India. Underpinning the body-on-frame chassis, the Maruti Jimny features large front grille, round-shaped headlamps, squared-off wheel arches, large alloys and sporty rear design.

Inside, the SUV might feature a newly-designed dashboard, steering wheel, new AC vents and buttons. Feature such as Suzuki’s SmartPlay infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be restricted to the high-spec trim. 7. Maruti Swift RS

The next in our list of upcoming Maruti cars in India is the performance version of the Swift hatchback – the Maruti Suzuki Swift RS. Prior to its official launch, the carmaker has started testing the hot hatch on Indian roads. The Maruti Suzuki Swift RS model will be locally developed and will feature a locally develop turbocharged engine. Power for the hot hatch will come from a 1.0-litre Boosterjet engine that also does duty in the Baleno RS. This motor dishes out a maximum power of 100.5bhp and 150Nm of torque. 8. Maruti Baleno 2019

Another prominent facelift on the list of upcoming Maruti cars is the 2018 Baleno. This will be the first facelift of the hatchback featuring minor cosmetic and feature changes. Just so you know, the Indo-Japanese carmaker is also working on the new-generation Baleno that is expected to be unveiled by 2021. The 2018 Maruti Baleno facelift will see subtle design updates including new chromed grille, revised headlamps and front bumper, new roof mounted spoiler, newly-designed alloys and re-designed taillamp graphics.

New tech on the inside will include Suzuki’s upgraded SmartPlay infotainment system with satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with new seat upholstery and interior theme. No changes will be made to its engine setup. The new Maruti Baleno 2018 will make use of the same 1.2-litre petrol, 1.0-litre Boosterjet petrol and a 1.3-litre diesel engine. 9. Maruti Ertiga Crossover

This is another model among the all-new Upcoming Maruti cars that will join the line-up by 2020.  The Ertiga based crossover is being developed under the YHB codename and will be one of the three new models in its UV range. The concept version of the Ertiga crossover was first previewed in 2015 at the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS). While it will share HEARTECT underpinnings with new Dzire and Baleno, the model will borrow styling cues from the regular Ertiga. One must note that YHB will be larger than its donor MPV and will pack in additional kit. Power source on the vehicle will be Suzuki’s indigenously developed 1.5-litre oil burner that could also be used in the Ciaz facelift.

10. Maruti S-Cross Petrol

Last in our list of upcoming Maruti cars is the petrol version of the S-Cross crossover. This crossover is currently available in a diesel avatar only. It is powered by a 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine coupled with Suzuki’s SHVS mild-hybrid system. The company will soon introduce a petrol engine in the S-Cross. It is likely to be powered by a new 1.5-litre petrol engine that also powers the new Ertiga and Ciaz. Coupled with Suzuki’s mild-hybrid system, this engine churns out 104bhp of power and 138Nm of torque.
