The first model in our list of upcoming Maruti Cars is the new Future S concept that made its global debut at the Delhi Auto Expo 2018. This concept previews Maruti’s future compact car design. Maruti claims that the compact SUV concept shows the company’s next level of “design evolution” in terms of proportions, body sculpting and fusing body patterns and colours. The production version of the Future S is expected to arrive in the market sometime next year. In Maruti’s product lineup, this new mini SUV will be positioned below the Vitara Brezza compact SUV and take on the likes of Mahindra KUV100 and Hyundai’s upcoming compact car.
Measuring 200mm shorter than the Vitara Brezza, the Future S concept features all-new LED headlamps with LED DRLs, thin chrome grille, a high bonnet line, sloping roofline and vertical A-pillar along with the conventional SUV-like characters. The production version of the Future S will be based on Suzuki’s lightweight “HEARTECT” platform that also underpins Maruti’s new breed cars including new Swift and Dzire. While the technical details of the car yet to be revealed, it is likely come with a 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine. Rumors also suggest that the new mini SUV could also get the company’s new 1.5-litre diesel powertrain.
Next in our list of all new upcoming Maruti cars is the Grand Vitara. Though there is no official word about its launch, the SUV could be offered with two seating layout – 5-seats and 7-seats. While the standard 5-seater version will sit above S-Cross and compete against the Hyundai Creta, the 7-seater model will face challenge from cars like Mahindra XUV500 and Tata Hexa. If media reports are to be believed, Maruti Suzuki India is planning to bring a bigger version of the Grand Maruti Suzuki Vitara.
Considering that Suzuki sells Vitara in overseas markets, it is expected to bring the same model for the Indian market. Aiming to curb its manufacturing pricing, Maruti Suzuki will emphasize on higher level of localization. The SUV might also share most of its components from the existing Maruti cars. For instance, it might underpin the Vitara Brezza’s platform. Power for the Grand Vitara is likely to come from the Fiat-sourced 1.6-litre Multijet diesel engine and Suzuki’s global 1.6-litre petrol or the turbocharged 1.4-litre petrol unit. Transmission options on offer could include a 6-speed manual unit supported by Suzuki’s All-Grip 4-wheel drivetrain. Read More
