The 2018 Tiago will get subtle styling changes along with addition of new variants including Tiago Electric.

Tata Motors, the homegrown automaker had launched the Tiago hatchback in April 2016. The vehicle is the first model based on the company’s IMPACT design philosophy, which we have already seen on the Tigor, Hexa and Nexon compact SUV. It is currently the best-selling Tata car in the country with sales close to 7,000 units on monthly basis. The company has recently launched the Tiago Wizz special edition, which comes pack with raft of features. The homegrown automaker will also launch new variants and electric version in the Tata Tiago 2018 model. While the special editions could be showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo 2018, the electric variant will be launched in the second half of 2018.

The Tata Tiago is based on the modified X0 platform that also underpins the Tigor Styleback. The vehicle is available in both petrol and diesel guise in both manual and AMT versions. The AMT equipped variant and the range-topping variants in the line-up are the most popular among customers and rake in good monthly numbers. While the gasoline version of the car is equipped with an 83.8bhp, 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol, the oil burner is a 1.05-litre, 3-cylinder unit producing 69.04bhp of power. This compact hatchback is available with two driving modes – Sports and City, which makes it the first car in the segment to offer Sport mode. Transmission options include a five-speed manual and a five-speed AMT unit.

On the other side, the Tiago Electric will get a liquid-cooled 85kW drive motor, which is claimed to offer 200Nm of torque. The front-wheel-drive EV features a six-speed gearbox. It is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph in less than 11 seconds in sport mode. This electric model is claimed to have a range of over 100kms on a single charge. The Tiago is available in 5 trim levels – XB, XE, XM, XT and XZ – in both petrol and diesel versions. The base XB petrol model is priced at Rs 3.21 lakh, while the price tag for the base diesel Tiago is 3.96 lakh. Range-topping XZA Petrol automatic variant cost Rs 5.36 lakh, while the top-spec XZ Diesel is tagged at Rs 5.58 lakh. Additionally, the company has also introduced the Tiago Wizz special edition model at Rs 4.52 lakh and Rs 5.30 lakh for petrol and diesel, respectively.

The Tiago small car is available in both petrol and diesel engine options. The gasoline version derives power from a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder VCTi Revotorn engine with DOHC arrangement. This unit is good for 83.8bhp of power and 114Nm of torque. On the other hand, the oil burner is a new 1.05-litre 3-cylinder Revotorq motor that churns out 69.04bhp of power and 140Nm of torque.

A 5-speed manual gearbox driving the power to the front wheels is available as standard, while a 5-speed AMT unit is offered on the top-spec petrol version. Both the engines come with segment-first Multi-drive modes and are claimed to return superior mileage and peppy performance.

The 2018 Tata Tiago will also come with an electric drivetrain option, which will be equipped with a liquid-cooled 85kW drive motor. Based on the thoroughly modified X0 platform, the Tiago hatchback sits below 4 meter in length. It is 3,746mm long, 1,647mm wide and 1,535mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,400mm. The hatchback has a ground clearance of 170mm, which is good enough to tackle rough road conditions. It offers a boot space of 24-litres and has 22 utility spaces inside the cabin.

Featuring a contemporary styling, the Tiago is the first product based on Tata’s new IMPACT design philosophy. The same design lanugage can also be seen on other new breed of Tata cars including the Nexon compact SUV and Tigor styleback. It has been designed with inputs from Tata’s global design studios in Italy, UK and Pune. Upfront is aa wide mesh grille and sweptback headlamps with smoked lens and black bezel and defogger in circular pattern that gives it a sporty look.

The rear profile also gets modern styling, featuring horizontal tail-lights, an integrated roof spoiler and body coloured bumpers. Other design highlights inlcude sloping rear windshield, body-coloured door handles and ORVMs with integrated LED blinkers, etc. The wheel arches have been fitted to 10-spoke, 14-inch alloy wheels. The Tiago Wizz edition has dual-tone exterior with contrasting black-roof and spoiler, sporty roof rails, dual-tone wheel cover with red accents and unique berry-red grille.

The Tiago’s cabin features most of its components from the Zest compact sedan. Featuring a dual-tone black and beige interior, the hatchback gets a new dashboard and rectangular AC vents. Multiple storage areas are also on offer, while the cabin space is good enough to accommodate five adults comfortably. Talking about features, the hatchback has multi-functional steering wheel with audio and bluetooth telephony controls, Harman infotainment system, chromed AC vents, 60:40 split folding rear seats, electronically adjustable ORVMs with turn indicators, etc.

The Tiago is also equipped with several segment leading features like multi-drive mode – City and Eco, Juke Car application and smart-phone enabled Turn-by-Turn navigation app. The Tiago Wizz edition gets dual-tone interiors with piano-black finish and sporty red lines. It features new geometric patterned seat upholstery, red highlights on AC vents rings, sporty black finish on steering wheel, tablet storage in glove box, front power outlet, ticket holder on A-pillar and others. For passengers’ safety and security, the hatchback gets 9th generation ABS with EBD, dual-front airbags, rear parking sensors with display on infotainment system, corner stability control, etc.
