New Maruti WagonR To Rival Hyundai Santro; Launch Within 6 Months

New Maruti Suzuki WagonR Details

Featuring the tall-boy stance, the new Maruti WagonR will come with several modern features.

India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki is gearing up for the launch of new-generation Ertiga MPV around Diwali 2018. Besides the MPV, Maruti will launch the next-gen WagonR hatchback in the first quarter of 2019, around February-March. This tall-boy hatch will get several modern features, which is missing in the current model. It will challenge the likes of the upcoming Hyundai Santro, which is scheduled to be launched on 23rd October, 2018.

The new Maruti WagonR is reported to be based on Suzuki’s new-generation HEARTECT platform, which also underpins the Ignis and the Swift twins. This platform is lighter and stiffer, and it will also make the car safer than the outgoing one. However, few media claims that the company could use the modified version of the existing platform. The new WagonR will be safer enough to meet the upcoming safety norms. Features like dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors and ISOFIX will come as standard.

Latest reports claim that Maruti is aims to sell around 18,000 units of the new-generation WagonR on monthly basis. Besides new Santro, the new WagonR will rival the Tata Tiago hatchback. The new model will continue to offer the practical and spacious cabin, which is the USP of current model as well.

The tall-boy hatch will also get a new 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which could be compatible with Android Auto and Apple Carplay. Though the overall silhouette remain the same, it will receive comprehensive design changes in the form of a new grille, sweptback headlamps and newly styled taillights. Read – All-New WagonR Will Be Maruti’s First Electric Car In India

Under the bonnet will be a tried and tested 1.0-litre K-series petrol engine that produces 67bhp of power and 91Nm of torque. This engine will be tweaked to meet the upcoming BS6 emission norms. Both manual and automatic gearbox will be on offer.
