The next 4 months going to be action-packed for the Indian automobile industry as several new cars/SUVs are ready to hit roads. Here’re key details of the top 20 upcoming new models that will come by the end of 2022.
Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara
Maruti Suzuki will mark its entry into the mid-size SUV segment with the all-new Grand Vitara that will witness market launch in September 2022. Based on Suzuki’s Global C platform, the SUV will come with the 1.5L K15C Dualjet petrol with Smart Hybrid system and 1.5L TNGA petrol with Intelligent Hybrid tech powertrain options. Maruti Brezza CNG
The new-generation Maruti Brezza went on sale in the month of June. The carmaker has already confirmed that its CNG version will hit showrooms in coming months. Though, the exact launch date is yet to be announced. The Maruti Brezza CNG will feature the new 1.5L K15C petrol engine with a factory-fitted CNG kit. While the regular gasoline unit makes 103bhp with 137Nm, the power and torque figures of the CNG version will be slightly lower. It will be made available with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Maruti Baleno CNG
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno CNG version is likely to arrive in coming months. The model will come with the 1.2L Dualjet petrol motor with a factory-fitted CNG kit. There will be marginal drop in power and torque figures. Mileage of the Baleno CNG is likely to be around 25km/kg. Hyundai Venue N-Line
The sportier version of the new Hyundai Venue subcompact SUV will go on sale in India on 6th September 2022. Called the Hyundai Venue N Line, the model will come with a 120bhp, 1.0L turbo petrol engine paired to a DCT gearbox. The N Line version carries some sporty design elements over the regular model. It has ‘N Line’ badging on the front fenders, newly-designed alloy wheels and dual tip exhaust. Hyundai Ioniq 5
The South Korean automaker has confirmed that it will launch the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric crossover in the second half of 2022. The model has been built on the E-GMP platform and has a modularized battery system. Here, the Ioniq 5 will come as a CBU unit and won’t have any direct rival. Buyers will have two powertrain options – a single motor (169bhp/350Nm) and a dual motor setup (306bhp/605Nm). New Hyundai Kona
The updated Hyundai Kona is likely to launch in the second half of 2022. A few significant changes will be made to its exterior and interior. Inside, the new Kona will have a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch infotainment system, BlueLink connectivity and new safety techs. It will come with the larger 64kWh battery pack and an electric motor generating power close to 204bhp. On the exterior, the electric SUV will feature a new closed-off grille, sleeker headlamps, lesser side cladding, new alloy wheels and updated front and rear bumpers.
New Hyundai Creta
The 2022 Hyundai Creta is ready to hit Indian roads towards the end of this year. While engine setup of the new Creta will remain unchanged, the SUV will receive a new parametric grille, differently designed DRLs, repositioned headlamps, revised tailgate and new LED taillamps. Interior will be revised with an updated 10.25-inch digital instrument console and updated BlueLink connected car tech. Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder
Prices of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV will be announced in coming weeks. The SUV model lineup will come in four trims – E, S, G and V, powered by NeoDrive and TNGA Atkison Cycle hybrid powertrains. Buyers will have 6 single-tone and four dual-tone colour schemes. Features such as a 360 degree camera, a panoramic sunroof, a full digital instrument cluster, connected car tech, Head-Up Display, ESP, 6 airbags, hill hold assist, tyre pressure monitoring system will be reserved for the higher trim. New Toyota Hybrid MPV
According to fresh media reports, Toyota Kirloskar Motor will introduce a new hybrid MPV by the end of 2022. It’s likely to be hybrid version of the Innova Crysta that might be named Toyota Innova Zenix. The model will be designed on a new modern, monocoque chassis & have FWD setup instead of the ladder-frame chassis & RWD system. Toyota Glanza CNG
Toyota Glanza hatchback will receive CNG variants in coming months. Similar to the Baleno CNG, the model will come with the 1.2L petrol engine paired to a CNG kit. While its power and torque figures will be lower than standard petrol motor, the mileage will be higher. The hatch’s 1.2L Dualjet petrol engine delivers a claimed power of 89bhp and 113Nm of torque. New Toyota Land Cruiser LC300
Official bookings for the all-new Toyota Land Cruiser LC300 have been commenced at a token sum of Rs 10 lakh. Designed on the new GA-F platform, the SUV will be offered with the new 3.5L twin-turbo petrol V6 and 3.3L diesel engines making 409bhp and 305bhp respectively. Both motors will come with a 10-speed automatic gearbox. It gets 4X4 drivetrain system as standard along with the advanced Multi-Terrain Select system and Multi-Terrain Monitor system.
Mahindra XUV400
Mahindra & Mahindra will unveil the XUV400 electric SUV on 6th September 2022. Compared to its petrol version – Mahindra XUV300, the new Mahindra XUV400 will be longer and have more cargo space. The model is reported to be packed with the high-energy-dense NMC battery sourced from LG Chem. These cells are said to deliver more power and longer range than the cylindrical LFP cells. The new electric SUV will offer a range of over 400km on a single charge. A few design changes will be made to the XUV400, thus differentiating it from its petrol version. Mahindra Bolero Neo Plus
Mahindra Bolero Neo Plus will soon hit roads, though its official launch date is yet to be announced. It’s the three-row version of the Bolero Neo that will come with the 2.2L mHwak diesel engine borrowed from the Thar. The motor, however, could be detuned. It can be had with either a manual or an automatic gearbox. The overall length, width and height of the SUV will stand at 4400mm, 1795mm and 1812mm respectively. It will sit on a 2680mm of wheelbase. Tata Nexon CNG/Altroz CNG
The home-grown automaker has started testing the Tata Nexon CNG and Altroz CNG models. Both models are expected to launch by the end of this year. The Nexon CNG will come with the 1.2L Revotron turbo petrol engine paired to a CNG kit and the Altroz CNG will feature the 1.2L turbo petrol motor with a factory-fitted CNG kit. Tata Altroz EV
Tata Motors might also roll out the electric iteration of the Altroz premium hatchback by the end of this year. The model was first showcased in its concept avatar at the 2020 Auto Expo. It will feature a closed-off grille, differently designed bumpers, new alloys with blue highlights and blacked-out tailgate section. Blue highlights inside the cabin will further distinguish it from the regular petrol model. New MG Hector
MG Motor India has released a few teasers of the updated Hector SUV revealing its new front grille and silhouette. The new model will also feature the revised headlamps and taillamps. Interior might be updated with a new 14-inch portrait-style touchscreen infotainment system, a newly-designed dashboard and Level 2 ADAS system. No changed will be made to its engines. New MG Gloster
MG Gloster will also receive its first major update in coming months. The updated mode, which was caught testing in Karnataka, will feature new LED taillamps, slightly revised radiator grille, LED headlamps and new pair of alloy wheels. A few feature upgrades are expected to be made inside the cabin as well. The 2022 MG Gloster will continue to use the existing 2.0L turbo diesel and 2.0L twin turbo diesel engines making 163bhp with 375Nm and 218bhp with 480Nm. Kia Sonet X Line
Kia Sonet X Line is ready to hit roads in coming weeks. The automaker has dropped its first teaser revealing its front grille, LED DRLs and prominent hood with Kia’s signature logo. The model is likely to be offered in Matte Graphite colour scheme. Its blacked-out treatment on the ORVMs, piano black finish on the front grille, faux skid plates and fog lamps will add more to its sporty looks. Other cosmetic enhancement will include larger alloy wheels in Matte Graphite finish, a dark chrome strip connecting the taillamps and an ‘X-Line’ badge on the rear. New Citroen C5 Aircross
The 2022 Citroen C5 Aircross facelift is reported to go on sale in September 2022. While the new model will continue to use the 177bhp, 2.0L diesel engine with an 8-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox, it will receive significant updates inside and out. The SUV will carry a single-piece wraparound headlamps with LED DRLs, newly-designed alloy wheels and updated taillamps with rectangular lighting elements and darkened finish.
