Tata Nexon CNG, Altroz CNG Models – Testing Begin, Key Details

With the increasing fuel prices, buyers are switching towards the greener and cheaper options – i.e. CNG, hybrid and electric vehicles. Considering the high demand, car manufacturers are planning to expand their CNG model lineup including Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Kia, Tata and Toyota. Talking about Tata Motors, the automaker has begun testing the Nexon CNG and Altroz CNG in the country. Both models were caught on camera featuring emission testing equipment.

Official launch timeline and details of the Tata Nexon CNG and Altroz CNG variants are still under the wraps. The former is expected to be offered with the 1.2L Revotron turbo petrol engine and a 6-speed manual gearbox. The motor pushes out a peak power of 120bhp and 170Nm of torque. Though, the factory-fitted CNG kit is likely to reduce its power output by 15bhp.

Similarly, the Tata Altroz CNG could be made available with the 1.2L turbo petrol engine coupled to a factory-fitted CNG kit. The turbo petrol unit is good for 110bhp and 140Nm. These figures might drop by 10bhp -15bhp while running on CNG. The hatchback can be had with a 5-speed manual transmission. One must note that the Tata Nexon CNG and Altroz CNG will be high on mileage than their standard petrol counterparts.

The CNG versions of the Nexon and Altroz are likely to be based on the mid-level and range-topping variants. In terms of features, the subcompact SUV will offer leather wrapped steering wheel and gearshift knob, cruise control, iRA connectivity suite, height adjustable driver seat, rear power outlet, auto AC, tyre pressure monitoring system and more. The hatchback’s CNG model will come with a 7-inch infotainment system, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, leather wrapped steering wheel and gear knob, projector headlamps, black contrast roof, R16 laser alloys, etc.
