Maruti Suzuki and Toyota have recently launched the new Baleno and the new Glanza respectively. The new models come with significantly revised design and all-new interior. Both models are offered in a single 1.2-litre petrol engine; however, things will change in near future. The new Baleno and the Glanza will soon receive a CNG option.
The new Glanza and new Baleno are powered by the 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol engine paired with manual transmission (MT) as well as an automated manual transmission (AMT). This engine is capable of producing 89PS and 113Nm of torque. The regular model is claimed to return an ARAI certified fuel economy of over 22kmpl.
According to the Toyota India website, the new Toyota Glanza CNG will deliver a mileage of 25kmpl. The e-CNG variants will be offered with the same 1197cc petrol engine; however, the power and torque output will be marginally reduced. The CNG variant will only be offered with manual gearbox.
The new Toyota Glanza is offered in 4 variants – E, S, G and V. It is expected that the CNG version will be offered on the lower and mid-spec variants. The hatchback is priced between Rs 6.4 lakh and Rs 9.7 lakh. The CNG versions are expected to cost around Rs 60,000 to 70,000 higher than the regular petrol variants. On the flip side, the new Baleno costs between Rs 6.35 lakh and Rs 9.49 lakh.
The new Baleno and the Glanza shares most of the features. It comes with a larger 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This system is compatible with Amazon Alexa support and navigation along with Arkamys Sound System. Other features include heads-up display (HUD), a 360-degree camera, wireless phone charger, automatic AC, LED fog lamps, height adjustable driver seat and Suzuki connect tech with more than 40 features. The new models come equipped with several high-end safety and security features including 6 airbags, ESP (Electronic Stability Program), ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat anchorage, etc.
