MG Motor India has released yet another teaser of the updated MG Hector SUV that’s slated to go on sale in coming weeks. Its official launch date, however, is yet to be revealed. The latest teaser video shows its front facia featuring a newly-designed chrome grille and its silhouette. The spy images confirm that the headlamps and taillamps will also be revised. The biggest updates will be made inside the cabin – i.e. a new 14-inch, portrait-style touchscreen infotainment system. It appears similar to the unit offered on the Tesla Model-S.
The dashboard will be completely revised with the vertically placed AC vents. The SUV will also come with the wireless smartphone connectivity, connected car tech, a digital key and a personal AI assistant. The new 2022 MG Hector will be equipped with the Level 2 ADAS system including emergency braking system, parking assist with blind spot detection, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, rader based adaptive cruise control and more.
The new 2022 MG Hector will continue to come with the same engine setup. That means, the SUV will be available with the 1.5L, 4-cylinder turbo petrol and 2.0L diesel engines making 141bhp with 250Nm and 168bhp with 350Nm respectively. The gasoline motor can also be had with the mild hybrid system. There will be two gearboxes on offer – a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic.
In other updates, the British automaker is planning to expand its Indian product portfolio in coming years. The company is in talks with around dozen fund houses to raise $300-600 million locally. With the new investment, MG Motor India will increase its manufacturing capacity and model lineup. Major focus will be on electric vehicles (EVs) and deep localisation. The automaker has already confirmed an entry-level electric car for India that will hit roads in the first half of 2023.
