November 14, 2016 – First previewed at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo, the new Volkswagen Vento 2016 will soon go on sale in the Indian market. The German carmaker has silently added the new 1.5-litre TDI diesel engine in the Vento’s lineup. The same engine does duty in the diesel version of the Ameo sedan. Besides the updated diesel powertrain, the saloon’s new model receives minor cosmetic upgrades and a new silk blue colour. Though, the petrol powertrains remain unchanged – i.e. a 1.2-litre TSI and a 1.6-litre TSI.
Just so you know, Volkswagen recently introduced the Polo GTI hot hatch and Polo AllStar special edition in the country. With an aim to extend its product lineup, the German auto major is also planning to bring-in the VW Passat GTE, T-Cross Breeze SUV and new-gen VW Polo hatchback.

Despite the minimal cosmetic and mechncial upgrades, the 2016 VW Vento’s prices are likely to be more or less similar to the existing model. Currently, the saloon is available within the range of Rs 7.85 lakh – Rs 11.87 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Engine options for the 2016 VW Vento petrol are the same – 1.2-litre TSI and 1.6-litre TSI – producing 103bhp with 175Nm and 153Nm respectively. What’s new with the 2016 Vento is the updated 1.5-litre TDI diesel engine that has been borrowed from the Ameo compact sedan. This oil burner is 5bhp more powerful than the current diesel unit.
Out of all three powertrains, the 1.5-litre TDI diesel mill delivers the highest torque output (i.e. 250Nm). The power performance of both the petrol mills is same – i.e. 103.2bhp. Similar to the current version, the 2016 Vento will come with a standard 5-speed manual gearbox, and a 7-speed DSG transmission continue to be available only on the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel models. The 2016 model will be available in 6 colour options – Carbon Steel, Silk Blue, Titanium Beige, Toffee Brown, Candy White and Reflex Silver.
For 2016, Volkswagen is giving minor upgrades to the sedan. While the overall design and dimensions of the car will remain unchanged, the front fascia will see major design updates. Up front, the car will get new headlamps featuring U-shaped LED daytime running lights. Design features such as Passat-inspired grille, wide air dam with LED fog lamps, sporty front bumper, 15-inch alloy wheels, electrically folding ORVMs with integrated LED turn indicators and LED tail lamps will be carried forward from the current model.
Inside, there will be a new touchscreen infotainment system, auto dimming IRVM, Mirrorlink connectivity, phone book/SMS viewer and rain sensing wipers.
