New Renault Duster, Nissan SUVs – 3 Petrol Engines; No Diesel

Renault and Nissan recently confirmed the development of four new SUVs, including a new-generation Duster with 5 and 7-seat configurations, as well as Nissan’s new Duster-based SUVs. The carmakers revealed that all models will be introduced to the market simultaneously over the coming years, with the all-new Duster expected to debut in late 2025. According to a recent media report, these upcoming SUVs will initially be introduced with 1.0L turbo petrol and 1.3L turbo petrol engines, producing 100bhp and 156bhp, respectively. These engines could be paired with two gearbox options – a 6-speed manual and a CVT.

The report further states that the upcoming new Duster and its Nissan counterpart could also be offered with a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine, likely reserved for entry-level trims. The carmakers have no plans to reintroduce the K9K diesel engine, although they might consider a hybrid powertrain for India depending on its development cost. The new Renault Duster (5 and 7-seater) and their Nissan counterparts will underpin the modular, heavily localized CMF-B platform, which will help the carmakers achieve competitive pricing.

New Duster Front

The new Renault Duster will see significant upgrades inside the cabin, including a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a 6-speaker Arkamys 3D sound system, wireless charging, two USB-C ports, and cruise control. The SUV will also feature ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) tech offering features such as lane-keep assist and auto emergency braking.

Nissan’s upcoming SUVs based on the new Duster 5 and 7-seater will have a slightly different design language inspired by the Magnite compact SUV. Key highlights will include Y-shaped DRLs with headlamps, 18-inch alloy wheels, C-pillar integrated rear door handles, plastic cladding on wheel arches, and Y-shaped LED taillamp clusters.

When it comes to pricing, it is too early to provide specific figures, though the new Renault Duster 5-seater is expected to cost between Rs 10 lakh to Rs 20 lakh. The 7-seater version will likely be priced higher than its 5-seater counterpart.
