Mahindra & Mahindra has confirmed three all-new products for the Indian market. The home-grown carmaker aims to strengthen its market in three fastest growing segments – compact SUVs, premium SUVs and MPVs. While two launches have been scheduled before the 2018 festive season, the one will come by the end of this year. The announcement was made at the pre-launch event of the Marazzo MPV. The new Mahindra cars will be based on the company’s all-new platforms. Here’re the three new Mahindra cars which are slated to go on sale in 2018.
1. Mahindra Marazzo MPV
Mahindra Marazzo MPV will be the first model to arrive in the market. Based on an all-new platform, the MPV is said have an aerodynamic design with largest wheelbase than other Mahindra vehicles. The carmaker also claims it will offer the quietest cabin and a class-leading ride and agile handling. Design and engine details of the Marazzo are still under the wraps. Though, the company has confirmed that will mark debut of a new diesel engine.
Rumor has it that the MPV could be offered with a new 1.6L mFalcon diesel powertrain that will be developed jointly by Mahindra and SsangYong. Estimated to be priced between Rs 10 lakh – Rs 15 lakh, the Mahindra Marazzo will rival the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Toyota Innova Crysta.
2. Mahindra S201 Compact SUV
The home-grown carmaker has been testing its new sub-4m SUV (codenamed Mahindra S201) for a while. Official name of the vehicle is yet to be revealed by the company, though it’s reported to be called Mahindra XUV300. Scheduled to launch before Diwali season, the new Mahindra compact SUV will be stacked up against the Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. Reports suggest that the carmaker will bring in SUV with two seating configurations – 5-seats and 7-seats.
Packed with an 113bhp, 1.5-litre diesel engine, the S201 (XUV300) could be the most powerful SUV in its league. It might also come with a newly-developed 140bhp, 1.2-litre petrol engine. The Mahindra S201 will be based on the SsangYong Tivoli and is likely to share some of its design bits with it.
3. Mahindra Rexton 7-Seater SUV
The fully-fledged premium SUV segment, which is currently ruled by the Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour, is also on Mahindra’s radar. The company will enter this space with the all-new Mahindra Rexton SUV that made its public debut at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. If media reports are to be believed, the new Mahindra 7-seater SUV could be christened ‘Mahindra XUV700’. It will be the company’s flagship SUV and slated to hit showrooms by the end of this year.
At the engine front, the Mahindra Rexton SUV is likely to get a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine that’s claimed to offer “progressive acceleration” and a “strong low end torque”. This 187bhp oil burner will be matched to the Mercedes -sourced 7-speed torque-converter E-Tronic automatic gearbox. Both 4WD and RWD drivetrain system will be offered on the SUV.
