Toyota, the Japanese automaker had launched the new generation Fortuner SUV in the Indian car market in 2016. The company has recently upgraded the SUV with new features. The Toyota Fortuner 2018 model is also available in TRD Sportivo avatar, which has recently been launched in the country. This new model gets sharp look, power engines and spacious cabin, and gets premium over the previous model. It is based on an all-new platform that provides more rigidity for a better ride and handling package.

Featuring all-new design, the new Fortuner shares styling cues from Lexus. It gets sharp and angular contours and creases all-around the SUV. Upfront is a new twin-shat grille, LED daytime-running lamps and Bi-LED projector headlamps along with chrome embellishments. The re-designed bumper features new black air dam and new fog lamp housings. The side profile of the SUV gets a floating pillar-less roof design, while the rear gets slim-cut treatment with sleek tail-lamps. It rides on 17-inch and 18-inch wheels.

Inside the cabin, the Fortuner gets an all-new dashboard design, new instrument cluster with a multi-information display, touchscreen infotainment system, automatic AC controls and a lot of storage spaces. For passengers’ safety and security, the SUV gets 7 airbags, ABS with EBD, vehicle stability control with brake assist, hill assist control, etc. The Toyota Fortuner 2018 model is available with two engine options – 174.5bhp, 2.8-litre GD diesel and 163.7bhp, 2.7-litre petrol. The new Fortuner is being offered in two petrol and 5 diesel variants. The petrol version is available in manual and automatic variants, priced at Rs 25.71 lakh and Rs 27.35 lakh respectively. On the other side, the diesel version is priced in the range of Rs 27.27 lakh to 31.48 lakh. The sportier TRD Sportivo cost Rs 31.02 lakh. The updated Fortuner is offered in both petrol and diesel guise with two manual and one automatic option. The diesel version of the SUV is powered by a 2.8-litre GD engine that also powers the new Innova Crysta. This 4-cylinder, in-line unit is capable of producing 174.5bhp of maximum power at 3,400rpm along with a peak torque of 450Nm between 1,600 to 2,400rpm. Transmission options include a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic unit.

On the other side, the gasoline version of the SUV gets a new 2.7-litre, 4-cylinder unit that is good for 163.7bhp of power and 245Nm of torque. This engine is paired to either a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shift & shiftlock.

It is built on a new Hilux Revo pickup truck platform, which is lighter and stiffer than the previous model. The mileage for petrol manual and automatic variant is quite similar at 10.01kmpl and 10.26kmpl.

The new Fortuner is developed on a new ladder frame chassis, which makes it longer, wider and taller than previous model. It is 90mm longer, 15mm wider and 15mm taller than the previous car. The SUV measures 4,795mm in length, 1,855mm in width and 1,835mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,745mm. It comes with a ground clearance of 225mm that is more than sufficient to tackle Indian road conditions. The fuel tank capacity is massive at 80-litres.

Suspension mechanism of the new Fortuner comprises of double wishbone, stabiliser bar at the front and 5-like coil-spring, stabiliser bar at the rear.

The new Fortuner comes equipped with radical changes, featuring an all-new design and more upmarket looks. Upfront is a dual-slat grille, flanked by dual projector headlights with LED daytime running lamps and chrome treatment. It features a revised bumper with reflectors, black air dams and chrome finished fog lamps. The muscular bonnet further enhances the overall looks. The side profile features prominent design changes in the form of squared wheel arches, black cladding and chrome treatment around window looks. The flared wheel arches have been fitted to 17-inch or 18-inch wheel shod with all-terrain tyres. At the back, the SUV gets a chic styling with LED tail-lights, new bumper with integrated reflectors, roof mounted spoiler, etc. The TRD Sportivo variant is equipped with TRD radiator grille and lower grille cover, 18-inch TRD alloy wheels, blacked out roof and pillars and TRD inspired exterior accents.

The cabin design is a major departure from the previous old-styled Fortuner. Spacious cabin of the SUV is inspired from Corolla sedan and new-gen Hilux pickup. The SUV gets an all-new dashboard design and there are multiple storage spaces. It features an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, new instrument console with TFT screen for MID, audio controls, leather-wrapped multi-functional steering wheel with paddle shifters, automatic climate control, electrically adjustable door mirrors with power folding function, engine start/stop button with Smart Key Entry and rear air-conditioning vents.
