Toyota FT-4X Concept Based SUV To Challenge Jeep Wrangler
The Toyota FT-4X concept-based SUV will be slightly smaller than the Toyota FJ Cruiser.
Toyota FJ Cruiser, the retro-styled mid-size SUV, was first introduced at the 2005 North American International Auto Show. The Japanese carmaker, however, had stopped the off-roader’s production worldwide due to its poor sales. According to latest reports, the company is planning to bring in a direct successor of the Toyota FJ Cruiser that could be based on the Toyota FT-4X concept.
Globally, the production version of the Toyota FT-4X will be put up against the Jeep Wrangler. Previewed at the 2017 New York Auto Show, the FT-4X concept has been designed for millennials by the company’s California Calty studio. Touted as ‘casual’ off-roading SUV, the FT-4X concept features boxy stance along with rugged styling and a raised driving position. In terms of height, the Toyota FT-4X is as high as the Range Rover Evoque. It will be slightly smaller than the Toyota FJ Cruiser, thus making it “more maneuverable when in the rocks”. Based on Toyota’s new global architecture C-Platform, the vehicle rides on 18-inch wheels and off-road tyres. Engine details of the Toyota FT-4X are still under the wraps. Though, it is likely to come with a small displacement, four-cylinder powertrain with all-wheel-drive (AWD) system. It might also get a selectable low-range gearbox for delivering better off-road experience.
