Tata Harrier JTP Might Get JLR’s 240bhp Engine – Report

Tata Motors originally planned to use JLR’s Ingenium powertrain for its three SUVs.

We have reported you earlier that Tata Motors might bring in the performance version of its highly-anticipated Harrier SUV, which is due for January, 2019. According to Autocar, the home-grown carmaker might use Jaguar Land Rover’s 2.0L Ingenium diesel engine for the Tata Harrier JTP performance SUV. This oil burner delivers power worth 240bhp.

Tata Motors originally planned to use JLR’s Ingenium powertrain for its three SUVs, – Safari Storme, Hexa and Harrier. However, the projected volume (over 1,00,000 engines) wasn’t feasible to localize a powertrain and its import will attract hefty custom duties. The Tata Harrier JTP is likely to receive sporty design elements and a pack of new features over the regular model. The all-new Tata Harrier will be made available with a 140bhp, 2.0L Kryotec diesel engine paired to Hyundai-sourced 6-speed manual torque converter gearbox and FWD system. Interestingly, the Tata Harrier 5-seater premium SUV shares its front suspension unit with the Discovery Sport – i.e. sub-frame and McPherson Strut assembly. At the rear, the SUV gets locally-developed torsion-beam suspension (instead of multi-link aluminum unit) tuned and balanced by Lotus Engineering with inputs from JLR.
