Top 12 New Car Launches By Mid 2022 – Key Details

The coming 2-3 months will be action-packed for the Indian automobile industry as several new car launches have been planned across segments. Here’re key details of the upcoming top 12 new cars, which are slated to hit roads by mid 2022 (i.e. June 2022).

New Maruti XL6 – Soon

The 2022 Maruti XL6 facelift has already started arriving at dealerships ahead of its launch. The MPV will receive a few cosmetic and feature upgrades, while its engine setup is likely to remain unchanged. The new model might come with a new grille, revised front and rear bumpers and larger alloy wheels. Rumour has it that the new XL6 facelift could be offered in 6 and 7-seats configurations.

Similarly, the 2022 Maruti Ertiga will witness subtle changes inside and out. Major update will come in the form of the new 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox replacing the existing 4-speed unit. The MPV will source power from the same 105bhp, 1.5L petrol engine. The new Ertiga is likely to get a new 9.0-inch infotainment system along with the updated upholstery. On the exterior, it might feature a new grille, updated bumpers and new colour schemes.

The Skoda Kushaq Monte Carlo Edition is reported to hit showrooms in the second half of April 2022. The model will have sporty blacked-out treatment on the exterior with lots of chrome and black badging. Some of its key highlights will include new 17-inch alloys and Monte Carlo badging on the front fenders. Based on the Style trim, the Kushaq Monte Carlo Edition will come with the 113bhp, 1.0L petrol and 147bhp, 1.5L petrol TSI engines. Both manual and automatic gearboxes will be on offer.

The second-generation Maruti Brezza is reported to see a release in April 2022. Its official launch date and details are yet to be announced by the automaker. The compact SUV will witness significant metal changes along with heavily revised front and rear sections. The new 2022 Maruti Brezza is reported to come with the factory-fitted sunroof and a 360 degree camera. For power, the new model will use the same 1.5L petrol engine with a new 6-speed torque convertor automatic and a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Honda City Hybrid – April-May (Reported)

The Honda City Hybrid, which was recently showcased at the Bangkok Motor Show, is reported to go on sale in April or May 2022. The hybrid model will come with the 98bhp, 1.5L petrol engine and 109bhp electric motor running ‘Atkinson Cycle’. While the gasoline unit and electric motor delivers a peak torque of 127Nm and 253Nm respectively, its combined torque stands at 127Nm. The City Hybrid is slightly faster than the regular model.

Jeep Meridian – May

Jeep Meridian is all set to debut on coming 29th March, followed by its launch in May. It will be a three-row SUV sharing most of its design elements, features and components with the Jeep Commander. The Meridian is expected to be offered with ADAS, adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking system. It will derive power from the 2.0L Multijet turbo diesel engine paired to a 9-speed automatic gearbox. The automaker might also offer a 48V mild hybrid powertrain.

Volkswagen Virtus – May

Official bookings for the upcoming Volkswagen Virtus have already been commenced. The model will go on sale in the month of May. Similar to the new Skoda Slavia, the VW Virtus has been designed on the heavily-localised MQB A0 IN platform and comes with 1.0L and 1.5L TSI petrol engine options. It measures 4561mm in length, 1752mm in width and 1507mm in height. Volkswagen’s new mid-size sedan will be offered in six exterior colour options.

New Hyundai Venue – June (Reported)

The South Korean automaker will give a mid-life update to the Hyundai Venue by mid 2022. The subcompact SUV will receive new-gen Tucson-inspired design changes including a new parametric grille. Its interior layout and features will be similar to the existing model. Though, the 2022 Hyundai Venue will get some extra comfort and safety goodies. The model lineup will also receive a new N-Line variant that’s recently caught on camera during its test rounds.

The 2022 Tata Nexon EV facelift is likely to launch in mid 2022. This time around, the electric SUV will come with the bigger 40kWh battery pack offering a range of over 400km on a full charge. A few changes are likely to be made to its floor pan. Features such as electronic stability program and selectable re-generation modes might also be on offer. The Nexon EV’s long-range model will be sold alongside the existing 30.2kWh battery pack.

Citroen C3 is inches closer to its launch. The automaker says that the C3 is the hatchback with SUV-ish design stance. Therefore, it will target cars right from the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Tata Altroz to Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger. Designed on the CMP modular platform, the hatchback is likely to come with 1.2L turbo petrol motor with the 5-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox options.

The new Toyota Urban Cruiser will come after the new-generation Maruti Brezza. Most of its updates will be similar to the new Brezza. It’s likely to feature a new grille, newly-designed headlamps, updated bumpers and new LED taillamps. The SUV will get a new, bigger touchscreen infotainment system, wireless charging system and a SIM-based connected car suite. The 2022 Toyota Urban Cruiser will be powered by the same 104bhp, 1.5L K15B petrol engine.

New-Gen Mahindra Scorpio – June (Reported)

The second-generation Mahindra Scorpio is reported to be unveiled in June, followed by its launch. The SUV will come with significantly improved design, feature-loaded interior and more powerful engines. Under the hood, it will employ the new 2.0L turbo petrol and 2.2L turbo diesel motors delivering 130bhp (for the lower variants), 160bhp (for higher variants) and 155bhp respectively. Both 6-speed manual and automatic gearboxes will be on offer.
