Jeep Meridian Three-Row SUV – 5 Key Facts To Know

Jeep India recently confirmed that it will unveil the all-new Meridian three-row SUV on March 29, 2022. Its market launch will take place in May. The Jeep Meridian will mark entry of the American automaker in the premium three-row SUV segment in the country. Here’re 5 key details of the upcoming Jeep SUV that we know so far.

Similar to Jeep Commander

The Jeep Meridian is essentially the right-hand drive (RHD) version of the Jeep Commander that’s retailed in the South American market. It will be a ‘Made-in-India’ product that will also be exported to other markets. While most of its design and styling elements are similar to Commander, a few changes have been made to distinguish it. The SUV carries more rectangular headlamps, differently designed front and rear bumpers, slimmer taillamps and an upright tailgate. The Meridian shares its platform and a few design bits with the Compass SUV. Though, it measures 4769mm in length, which is 364mm longer than the Compass.

Its official details are yet to be revealed. Though, the Meridian SUV is likely to come with all the features offered on the range-topping variant of the Compass. There will be a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, a wireless phone charger, electrically adjustable driver and passenger seats, a panoramic sunroof and more. Furthermore, the automaker might equip the Jeep Meridian with ADAS (advanced driver assistance system). Its safety kit will also include 7 airbags, automatic emergency braking system and adaptive cruise control. If reports are to be believed, the India-spec Meridian could be offered with 6-seats layout with captain seats in the second row.

Diesel Engine Only

Under the hood, the new Jeep SUV will feature the tried and tested 2.0L, 4-cylinder Multijet turbocharged diesel engine borrowed from the Compass. Though, the oil burner could be tuned for generating power close to 200bhp. Transmission duties will be done by a 9-speed automatic gearbox. The SUV will get AWD (all-wheel drive) system as standard. Rumour has it that that the company might offer a 48V mild hybrid powertrain on the SUV.

Off-road Capabilities

The new Jeep three-row SUV is likely to come with some serious off-road capabilities. The teaser video shows the SUV running from Kashmir to Kanyakumari through different terrains. Its details are likely to be revealed on its debut date.

Expected Price & Rivals

Prices of the new Jeep three-row SUV are estimated to start from Rs 30 lakh and go up to Rs 35 lakh (all, ex-showroom). In this price range, it will take on the Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster and new Skoda Kodiaq.
