Toyota is working on two brand new models – a new mid-sized SUV and a C-segment MPV for the Indian market. The new mid-sized SUV is reportedly to arrive in the end of 2022, while the new C-segment MPV will arrive in 2023. The company will also launch the new Glanza and the Toyota Urban Cruiser before the end of 2022.
The new Toyota Urban Cruiser compact SUV will be launched after the introduction of the new Brezza. The new model will come with significant design changes, which will be in-line with the new Brezza. The new Brezza is reportedly to be launched by April 2022.
The new Toyota Urban cruiser will be based on the existing platform and will also retain the existing design portfolio. The new model will come with few design changes in the form of new grille, new headlamp set-up, revised bumpers and new LED tail-lights.
Major changes will be made inside the cabin. The new Toyota Urban Cruiser compact SUV will come with all-new dashboard with a new larger freestanding touchscreen infotainment system. This infotainment unit is jointly developed by Suzuki and Toyota. It will be compatible with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, voice recognition and navigation. The SUV will also receive a wireless charging system and a SIM-based connected car suite.
The new model will come with paddle shifters, automatic air-conditioning, a factory-fitted electric sunroof, a new semi-digital instrument console and others. It is expected that the top-spec model could offer a 360 degree camera. The new Urban Cruiser is expected to be equipped with 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP (Electronic Stability Programme), rear parking camera and sensors and others.
The new Toyota Urban Cruiser will be powered by the same 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine that powers the current car. It is capable of producing 104bhp and 138Nm of torque. The vehicle could get a stronger mild-hybrid system for better fuel efficiency. Instead of a 4-speed torque convertor, the new SUV could get a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox. The new unit is likely to come with advanced technology and offers a sport mode, manual shift option and added ratios. The new Brezza will also receive a CNG version; however, it is early to comment whether the Urban Cruiser will receive this powertrain or not.
