Maruti Suzuki is already developing Baleno hatchback at its Gujarat facility, which also export this model to select international markets.

With this development, it is a possibility that Suzuki could launch this mini off-roader in India. The production of the Jimny is likely to start in 2020. The SUV could come as a replacement for the iconic Gypsy, which will be phased out from the market in the first half of 2019.

Suzuki had ruled out the launch of the Jimny SUV in the Indian market. It is expected that the Indo-Japanese maker could launch this SUV as a lifestyle model, which will target certain set of buyers. The mini off-roader is already on sale in the Europe and Japan. The SUV has been receiving overwhelming response from buyers in the UK market and Suzuki is unable to meet the rising demand. This turns into huge waiting period of over 1 year. In fact, Suzuki UK has stopped taking further bookings for the all-new Jimny.

The Jimny is currently produced at the Suzuki’s Kosai, Japan facility. This facility also serves as a hub for the export markets. In order to tackle the situation, the Japanese brand is looking at India. The company is likely to start Jimny’s production at its second Gujarat facility from 2020. This production plant will have a new unit, which will develop Suzuki’s products for the global markets. Read – New Suzuki Jimny Scores 3 Star rating in Euro NCAP
