The Suzuki Jimny is a lifestyle off-road vehicle that most Indian buyers won’t consider them as their primary family vehicles.

It’s indeed a bad news for people waiting for the new Suzuki Jimny SUV and the Swift Sport hot hatchback. Speaking to Zigwheels on the sidelines of the new Ciaz media drive, CV Raman, R&D Chief at Maruti Suzuki India confirmed that the Jimny and the Swift Sport won’t make their way to the Indian market.

Maruti Suzuki believes that there won’t be any major demand for the small 3-door SUV. The Jimny is a lifestyle off-road vehicle that most Indian buyers won’t consider them as their primary family vehicles. The Suzuki Swift Sport hot hatch makes use of a 1.4-litre Boosterjet turbocharged petrol engine that will make it an expensive deal in India. Similar to the personal off-roader segment, the hot hatch space has relatively less buyers. The new Suzuki Jimny and Jimny Sierra were recently launched in Japan at 14,58,000 JPY. Available in three variants, the small off-roader comes with a 0.7-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine pushing out 64PS and 96Nm of torque. The Suzuki Swift Sport, on the other hand, derives power from a 1.4-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged Boosterjet motor that’s good enough for 138bhp and 230Nm of torque.
