Maruti Wagon R 7-Seater MPV Launch in June 2019; NEXA Only

New Maruti WagonR 2019 Features

The new Wagon R 7-seater MPV will take on the likes of the upcoming Renault Triber and the Datsun GO+.

It was speculated that the new generation Maruti Wagon R will be a 7-seater MPV; that didn’t happen. A new media report claims that Maruti Suzuki is working on a longer wheelbase 3 Row version of the new-generation Wagon R. The new model is ready for launch and is expected to arrive in June 2019. The report further claims that the Wagon R based 7-seater MPV will be exclusively sold through NEXA premium dealership.

Maruti is yet to make a final decision of the launch. Ever since the new Wagon R has grown in size, the sales of the model have been reduced. The new model is expected to be loaded with several high-end features and will come with a more premium interior. The new model will take on the likes of the upcoming Renault Triber and the Datsun GO+.

The new Wagon R 7-seater model could be called Maruti Suzuki Solio. The company could also opt for an all-new nameplate. The report also claims that the company is also considering the hybrid and electric variant in the future. The new model won’t be offered to the taxi segment like the Ertiga. The new Maruti Wagon R 7-seater version will be powered by a 1.2-litre K-series petrol engine that also powers the regular 5-seater variant. This engine is capable of producing 82bhp of power and 113Nm of torque. Transmission options are likely to include a 5-speed manual and AGS aka automated manual transmission (AMT).

The Indo-Japanese automaker is also working on an all-new mini SUV based on the Concept Future S. Adding to it, the company will also develop an all-new premium SUV that will preview the next-gen Vitara. The new model is likely to make debut at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo, while launch could take place in the second half of 2020. The company has already announced that it will stop selling diesel cars in India from April 2020.
