Korea’s second largest car manufacturer, Kia Motors is all set to storm the Indian automobile industry. While the SP concept-based SUV will be the first Kia product to arrive in the market, it is also considering launch the Stonic premium crossover and the Grand Carnival MPV. Designed on the Hyundai i20 platform, the new Kia Stonic will take on the Ford EcoSport, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Tata Nexon. 1. One Of The Smartest Cars

The new Kia Stonic crossover is claimed to “one of the smartest cars” in its segment packed with a range of high-end technologies enhancing its “handling, safety, comfort, and convenience”. The carmaker claims that the crossover has the intelligent packaging that results into spacious cabin. 2. European Design

The Kia Stonic has been designed in collaboration of Kia’s European and Korean design studios, while its production takes place at the carmaker’s Sohari facility in Korea. Black body cladding around the base and skidplates add more to its sporty looks. Some of its key design elements include Kia’s signature ‘tiger-nose’ grille with a new three-dimensional chrome surround, LED DRLs, bold shoulder line and smooth surfaces contrasting with the straight lines of the bumper and rear skidplate.

3. Advanced Features

Kia’s upcoming crossover will be one of the most feature loaded cars in its league. The India-bound version is likely to retain the premium feel and appeal of the global-spec model. For advanced connectivity, there will be a ‘floating’ HMI (Human-Machine Interface) integrated on the centre of the dashboard, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The list of features will also include the rear view camera, electrochromic rear view mirror, automatic cruise control, heated front seats and steering wheel, fully automatic air conditioning, high beam assist automatic lighting and rain sensing windscreen wipers.

4. High On Safety

Designed on the strong and lightweight platform, the Kia Stonic crossover will come with a host of high-end safety features. It gets Kia’s new Drive Wise Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)that includes Blind-spot Collision Warning (BCW) with Rear Cross-traffic Collision Warning (RCCW), Forward Collision-avoidance Assist (FCA) with pedestrian recognition and Lane Departure Warning (LDW). The Driver Attention Warning (DAW) system comes as an optional offering. 5. Lightweight & Efficient Engines

Globally, the Kia Stonic is available with multiple engine options – a 84bhp, 1.2-litre petrol, a 100bhp, 1.4-litre petrol, a 120bhp, 1.0-litre T-GDI petrol and a 110bhp, 1.6-litre diesel. All these powertrains come with the standard 5-speed manual gearbox that’s claimed to be “designed maximize efficiency and gearshift feel”. A 7-sppeed dual-clutch automatic transmission is also on offer. Kia might add a plug-in-hybrid model in the carline at a later stage.
