Scheduled to be unveiled in July 2018, the new generation Suzuki Jimny and Jimny Sierra will first go on sale in Japan

Suzuki has recently showcased the new-generation Jimny mini off-roader to prospective buyers. Now, new details about the upcoming all-new Suzuki Jimny and Jimny Sierra have been leaked on the internet. Brochure images of SUV have hit the internet, revealing the exterior, interior and mechanical details of the SUV. Japanese automaker will unveil the Jimny for the Japanese market in the first-half of July. The SUV will also go on sale in other international markets.

The major difference between the Jimny and Jimny Sierra is the additional body cladding. The Sierra also comes with wider tyres and different alloy wheels. While the new Jimny will be powered by a smaller 660cc petrol engine, the Jimny Sierra is expected to feature Suzuki’s 1.0-litre Boosterjet or a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine. The boosterjet engine is capable of producing 110bhp and 175Nm of torque. Adding to it, the new models will also get automatic transmission option.

Additionally, the new Jimny and Sierra will be based on the modified body-on-frame chassis. This is the same platform that also underpins the previous model and the Gypsy SUV. Moreover, the SUV gets an all-independent, three-link rear suspension unit.

In terms of styling, the SUV looks like a mini G-Wagon, featuring retro-styled front fascia with round-shaped headlamps. Both the models get projector headlamps, black bumpers and outside rear view mirrors with integrated turn indicators. Adding to it, the mini SUV gets a rear-mounted spear. The mini off-roader also gets a blind spot detection system, which is mandatory in the Japanese market. Also See – Upcoming Maruti Suzuki Cars In India

The cabin of the SUV shares components with the new Swift hatchback. It is equipped with a new 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity along with climate control system. The SUV gets standard steering wheel with audio and Bluetooth controls. The new models also feature rear seats and the front passenger seat can be folded flat.

If reports are to be believed, the new Jimny could also come to India as a replacement for the popular Gypsy. First launched in 1985, the Gypsy has been one of the most popular off-roaders in India. Suzuki could introduce the 5-door version of the Jimny, which is likely to be launched as a new Gypsy in India.
