Citroen C5 Aircross SUV is scheduled to be launched in India in the second half of 2020
This year, the India automobile industry will witness entry of two auto majors – Kia Motors from South Korea and MG Motor from China. Groupe PSA will also be among latest entrants to join the band wagon. The French automaker has officially announced its entry into India with the Citroen brand. The Citroen C5 Aircross SUV will be the brand’s first model in the Indian market, which is scheduled to be launched in 2020. The Groupe PSA has collaborated with CK Birla Group for product development and engine manufacturing in India. The company will manufacture vehicles and powertrains locally at its Hosur based facility in Tamil Nadu, established under joint venture of Groupe PSA and CK Birla Group.
Groupe PSA has also announced that it will launch an all-new product in India every year from 2020. The second model will be launched in 2021. The Citroen C5 Aircross will challenge the likes of Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson, Tata Harrier and the new MG Hector SUV. Previewed last year, the new Citroen C5 Aircross was among the finalists of the prestigious World Car Of The Year (WCOTY) design award. In India, the SUV will be made available with petrol and diesel engines with the standard 8-speed automatic transmission.

The French carmaker has confirmed that it will officially mark its entry in the Indian market in 2020. The first product of the company is the Citroen C5 Aircross, followed by the C3 Aircross compact SUV. The company has officially announced that the 5-seater premium SUV will go on sale in the country in the second half of 2020.

Citroen’s first model for India will be brought via CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route and then assembled at its Hosur plant in Tamil Nadu. The company aims to achieve around 70% of localization for the C5 Aircross. It’s estimated to be priced around Rs 15 lakh for the base model and up to Rs 20 lakh for the fully-loaded trim.

Official engine details of the Citroen new SUV are still under the wraps. Though, the reports suggest that the vehicle will come with both petrol and diesel engine options. For power, the petrol version will make use of a 1.2L motor and the diesel model will be propelled by 2.0L unit. An 8-speed automatic gearbox will be standard across the carline. Measuring 4.50m in length, the new Citroen C5 Aircross carries flowing shape with “strong graphic touches such as the Airbump panels, large 720mm diameter wheels, a ground clearance of 230mm and distinctive roof bars”. Features such as pronounced wheel arches, 19-inch alloy wheels, gloss black A and B pillars, a floating roof, gloss black quarter lights and dual-tone roof bars enhance its sporty side appearance. Round the back, the new C5 Aircross sport 3D LED modules on each side, rear bumper with vents, dual-tone tail pipes and tailgate with spoiler emphasise its aerodynamic design.

Being a premium product, the C5 Aircross SUV will have several advanced comfort, entertainment and safety features. Its major highlights are an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.3-inch TFT digital instrument screen along with 20 latest-generation driver assistance technologies and 6 advanced connectivity technologies. Other key features include dual-tone full-grain leather steering wheel with mounted controls, automatic air conditioning with high-yield active carbon filter, 360 degree vision, reversing camera, electric parking brake, keyless entry and start, hill start/descent assist, trailer stability control and park assist. The SUV’s new model offers boot space of 580-litres to 720-litres, depending on second row seat position. One must note that the aforementioned features are of global-spec model. There is no clarity whether the India-spec version will offer all these features or not.
