1. Maruti Suzuki S-Presso

India’s leading carmaker, Maruti Suzuki had showcased the Concept Future S at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. The production version of the concept is likely to be named – Maruti Suzuki S-Presso. The recent spy pictures reveal that the mini SUV will carry upright stance with elements like wraparound headlamps with LED DRLs, large pillars, roof rails, sporty bumpers, wraparound taillamps and black plastic cladding. Official details about the SUV are yet to be announced.

2. Kia Subcompact SUV

The Korean automaker, Kia Motors is ready to mark its India entry with the all-new Seltos SUV. The company has confirmed that it will further expand its product portfolio with four new SUVs including a sub-4 meter model. Expected to launch in 2020, Kia’s new subcompact SUV will lock horns against the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300 and the newly-launched Hyundai Venue. Reports suggest that the new Kia subcompact SUV might share its platform, features and engines with the Hyundai Venue. Though, it will get a new bodyshell.

3. Toyota Vitara Brezza

The Japanese automaker, Toyota will officially enter into the sub-4 meter SUV category with the help of Maruti Suzuki. The company will launch the re-badged Vitara Brezza in India sometime next year. Save for the minor design tweaks and Toyota badging, the SUV will be exactly similar to the Vitara Brezza. It might get new front grille, revised bumper and newly-designed alloy wheels. Toyota’s re-badged Vitara Brezza might get a BSVI compliant petrol engine, which will soon introduce in the Brezza.

4. Tata H2X

Tata Motors showcased the H2X micro SUV concept at the Geneva Motor Show in March, 2019. The production version of the mini SUV might make its global debut at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo. Rumoured to be named ‘Tata Hornbill’, the micro SUV from the home-grown carmaker will put up against the Mahindra KUV100 and Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming S-Presso. Similar to the Altroz premium hatchback, the Tata H2X will be designed on the Alfa platform. Engine details of the micro SUV are yet to be revealed. Though, it’s reported to come with a BS6-ready 1.2L Revotron petrol engine that also does duty in the Tiago. The micro SUV might also be offered with a pure electric powertrain. The company is working an electric engine offering range between 200km – 230km in a single charge.

5. Renault HBC Subcompact SUV

Renault has confirmed that it’s working on a subcompact SUV (codename – Renault HBC) that will hit showrooms in coming years. While the official launch timeline is yet to be announced, it’s likely to debut at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo. The mini SUV could be based on the Kwid’s platform and is expected to be priced competitively. In fact, the vehicle might borrow the 1.0L petrol engine from the Kwid hatchback. Though, it will be BS6-compliant and turbocharged. Transmission choices will include both manual and AMT.

6. Hyundai Micro SUV

The South Korean carmaker recently entered into subcompact SUV space with the Hyundai Venue. Besides this, the company is also working on a micro SUV that will sit below the Venue. Hyundai’s new mini SUV might share its platform with the new Santro hatchback. As of now, details about the upcoming Hyundai mini SUV are scanty. Though, it’s likely to borrow some of its design bits and features from the existing Hyundai SUVs. Upon its launch, the mini SUV will take on the upcoming Maruti Suzuki S-Presso and Tata H2X.

7. Honda Subcompact SUV

The Japanese automaker, Honda is planning to launch a sub-4 meter SUV based on the new Amaze platform. The new model is expected to hit roads in late 2020 or early 2021. This compact SUV will directly rival the likes of Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300 and Maruti Vitara Brezza. The SUV is likely to offer all comfort and safety features, which are offered in the new Amaze compact sedan. The new Honda subcompact SUV might come with 2 engine options – a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel. Transmission choices are likely to include a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic.
