Citroen C5 Aircross Unveiled In India; Launch Confirmed For 2020
Citroen C5 Aircross SUV will challenge the Hyundai Tucson and Jeep Compass in India
Groupe PSA has officially announced its entry in the Indian market. The company will introduce its Citroen nameplate and the first product will be launched in 2020. The French brand has confirmed that the Citroen C5 Aircross will be its first product for the Indian market. It is also announced that Citroen will launch one all-new product every year from 2020 in India.
Groupe PSA has entered into partnership with CK Birla Group in India. The JV will locally develop products, platforms and powertrains for locally at the new production plant near Chennai. The collaboration will also take care of the sales, service as well as procurement operation for the Groupe PSA as a whole.
The company has also showcased the new Citroen C5 Aircross SUV at an event in Chennai today. In India, the C5 Aircross will face challenge from cars like Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson and the newly-launched Tata Harrier. Previewed last year, the new Citroen C5 Aircross was among the finalists of the prestigious World Car Of The Year (WCOTY) design award.
The company hasn’t revealed the engine specifications of the new Citroen C5 Aircross, but it is expected to be available with petrol and diesel engines with the standard 8-speed automatic gearbox. It is likely to get the new 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol and the 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine. The French carmaker will produce the engine and gearbox at its Hosur plant in Tamil Nadu.
Measuring 4.50m in length, the new Citroen C5 Aircross has a ground clearance of 230mm. Some of the design highlights include a sporty signature grille, two-tier full-LED headlamps with daytime running lights and indicators, long, and high bonnet, floating roof, glossy black A and B pillars, 3D LED modules on each side, dual-tone tail pipes and tailgate with spoiler
The Citroen C5 Aircross is most likely to sit above the competition in terms of pricing as well as features. It will get premium cabin with soft touch materials and leather upholstery for steering and door panels. Some of the interior features are likely to include an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, a 12.3-inch TFT digital instrument screen, automatic air-conditioning, 360 degree vision, reversing camera, electric parking brake, keyless entry and start, hill start/descent assist, trailer stability control and park assist.
