Affordable Honda Hybrid Car For India Under Development

New Honda SUV

Honda Cars India aims to expand its hybrid model lineup with an “affordable, electrified vehicle”.

Honda Cars India (HCI) has confirmed that it will launch six new cars in the next three years. While these six models will have the conventional powertrains, the company will also expand its hybrid model lineup with an “affordable, electrified vehicle”. Currently, the carmaker retails the Accord in the hybrid space. With the new hybrid vehicle, the carmaker aims to target the volume generating affordable segment.

The company has already introduced the new-generation Amaze compact sedan, followed by the fifth-generation Honda CR-V SUV. The next big launch from Honda’s stable will be the new Civic that will hit showrooms early next year. The carmaker hasn’t yet revealed the name and details of its upcoming six conventional powertrain models and the hybrid vehicle.

We believe Honda’s new model lineup will include the HR-V (Vezel) SUV that will be stacked up against the Hyundai Creta. The company is also working on the Amaze based new compact SUV that will challenge the Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. If media reports are to be believed, the Japanese carmaker will develop five new products based on its new GSP platform.

Honda’s popular mid-size sedan – the City will also see a generation change in 2020. Interestingly, the new Honda City 2020 is likely to come with the brand’s new hybrid i-MMD technology that’s claimed to be more efficient than Accord’s i-DCD system. The all-new Honda Brio hatchback might also make its way in the second half of 2019.
