Honda will launch the new-gen Civic, HR-V Compact SUV, new City sedan & a sub-4 meter SUV in India in next 2 years

At the launch of 5th generation Honda CR-V, Japanese automaker has officially announced that it will launch 4 all-new cars in India in the span of 2 years. The company will first launch the new-generation Civic sedan in the first quarter of 2019, which will be followed by all-new SUV in the second half of 2019. Honda is following a strategy of launching an all-new car in every six months. This year, the company has already launched the new Amaze and CR-V.

1. New Honda Civic

Honda officials have confirmed that the 10th generation Civic sedan will go on sale in the Q1, 2019. A possible launch in February 2019 can’t be ignored. The new Civic will be imported to India from Thailand as CKD unit, and then assembled at Honda’s Greater Noida based plant. The sedan will receive a locally developed 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel engine along with several locally sourced components. This will help the automaker to achieve higher localisation and competitive pricing. Besides diesel powertrain, the sedan will get a new 140bhp, 1.8-litre i-VTEC petrol engine.

Launch – February 2019

2. Honda HR-V

The second all-new product to go on sale is the new HR-V SUV, which is already on sale in select international markets. The SUV is expected to be launched in the second half of 2019, probably around festive season. This model will be the company’s 5-seater premium SUV to challenge the likes of Hyundai Creta, Renault Captur and the upcoming SUVs like Nissan Kicks and Kia SP based SUV. It will be powered by a new 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel engine that produces 118bhp of power and 300Nm of torque. On the flip side, the petrol version will get a 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine producing 118bhp.

Launch – Second Half of 2019

3. New-generation Honda City

Honda has already confirmed that the next-gen City sedan is already in development. The next model will be bigger and more spacious than the outgoing model. It will be equipped with several high-end features including advanced touchscreen infotainment system. The sedan will also come with petrol-hybrid powertrain, which will challenge the new Maruti Ciaz hybrid. The diesel version will continue to feature the existing 1.5-litre i-DTEC engine.

Launch – Before April 2020

4. A sub-4 meter SUV or new WRV

Honda hasn’t revealed much about the 4th all-new product for Indian market. However, rumors suggest that the company is working on an all-new sub-4 meter SUV based on the new Amaze platform. This SUV could be launched by the end of 2020. A prototype of the SUV could be showcased at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo.

The company could also opt for the new WR-V, which will receive BS-VI compliant engines in 2020. A new generation Brio could also arrive in India; however, nothing concrete on the same has been announced.
