Hyundai to launch a new micro SUV below the Venue; to rival Tata H2X

Korean automaker, Hyundai is gearing up for the launch of the much-awaited Venue compact SUV in India. The company will launch the next-generation Hyundai Creta, new Tucson and i20 Active in 2020-21. Hyundai is also working on the 7-seater versions of the Creta and Tucson. What’s more interesting is that the company is also working on a micro SUV for the Indian market. The small SUV will be positioned below the new Venue compact SUV.

The new micro SUV will rival the likes of Mahindra KUV100 NXT and upcoming small SUVs based on the Maruti Concept Future S and the Tata H2X concept. Maruti had showcased the Concept Future S at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. The production-ready model is expected to be launched in late 2019. The Tata H2X micro SUV was unveiled at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Tata has already confirmed that the production-ready model will debut at the 2020 Auto Expo, while launch is likely in the second half of 2020.

The new Hyundai micro SUV is expected to be based on the new Santro’s platform, which also underpin the upcoming Hyundai Venue. It is expected to be introduced in 2021, though official announcement is yet to be made. The new model is expected to share design cues, features and other details from the existing Hyundai SUV range. The company is also working on the next-generation Grand i10 hatchback, which is likely to be launched in the second half of 2020. The new model will be based on the new Santro’s platform and it will grow in size to offer more cabin space.
