3-door Jimny Is Not Suitable For India, Says Maruti Suzuki
A few weeks ago, you may have read number of reports about Suzuki Jimny’s arrival in India. Though, it’s not going to happen anytime soon.
Talking to ACP, C V Raman, Senior Executive Director — Engineering, Maruti Suzuki India, has revealed that the 3-door Suzuki Jimny isn’t a feasible option for the Indian market. The company has to make a new market specific development that will “require time and cost”.
The 3-door Suzuki Jimny, based on the short wheelbase, entered into its fourth generation globally last year. The 5-door version of the SUV, which is reported to be under development, will be built on a longer wheelbase. Read – Maruti Suzuki S-Cross & Vitara Brezza To Get Petrol Engine This Year
Unlike the 3-door version which posses some serious off-road capabilities, the 5-door model will be a more practical machine for day-to-day driving purpose.
The new Suzuki Jimny is reported to be introduced as a replacement of the aging Maruti Suzuki Gpysy. The Indo-Japanese carmaker has already stopped taking booking for the Gypsy in India.
Sporting rear-wheel drive layout and ladder-on-frame chassis, the SUV has always been appreciated for its great off-road capabilities.
Currently, the Suzuki Jimny has been produced at the carmaker’s Japan based facility that also serves demand of the export markets. The Japan-spec Jimny comes with a 0.7L, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine delivering power worth 64PS and 96Nm. The Jimny Sierra is avialable with a 1.5L, 4-cylinder petrol motor developing power worth 102PS and 130Nm of torque.
