Mahindra Marazzo MPV marked its debut in the Indian market in September, 2018. The MPV carline is made available in four trims – M2, M4, M6 and M8 – at an introductory price of Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Pan India). Mahindra’s new flagship MPV has been designed and developed at the carmaker’s North American Technical Centre. The Marazzo has been designed on Mahindra’s all-new platform, and is claimed to have the largest footprint of any Mahindra vehicle. The MPV is also claimed to offer the “quietest cabin in class” and “best-in-class ride and agile handling”. The Mahindra Marazzo also marks debut of an all-new 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine developed from inputs of SsangYong that’s said to be low on the weight, vibration and noise. Mahindra’s Nashik plant serves as production hub for the Marazzo and the engine development and supply takes place at the carmaker’s Igtipuri facility. The home-grown carmaker established both the facilities with a total investment of Rs 1,500 crore. While the entry-level variant of the new Mahindra 7 seater MPV has been positioned against the new-generation Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, and its range-topping trim takes head-to-head against the Toyota Innova Cyrsta. It also competes against the Renault Lodgy (top model) and the Tata Hexa. In order to achieve such a competitive price range, Mahindra is producing the vehicle with high-level localization. Prices of the Mahindra Marazzo 7-seater version start from Rs 9.99 lakh for the entry-level variant and go up to Rs 13.90 lakh for range-topping model. The 8-seater model of the MPV costs Rs 5000 more than the 7-seater version, ranging from Rs 10.04 lakh to Rs 13.95 lakh. One must note that all prices are introductory ex-showroom, India. The carmaker recently announced that it will hike Marazzo prices by Rs 30,000 – Rs 40,000 from January 1, 2019.

As mentioned above, Mahindra’s new MPV debuts with an all-new engine featuring lightweight cam cover, intake manifold and cylinder head. It’s also light on vibration and noise. The new Mahindra 7 seater MPV is the company’s first car to feature an all-new 1.5-litre diesel powertrain. This turbocharged oil burner has been developed with joint efforts of Mahindra and SsangYong. The new oil burner can deliver a maximum power of 121.3bhp (123PS) while generating a peak torque of 300Nm. Transmission on offer is a 6-speed manual gearbox. On the fuel efficiency ground, the new Mahindra 7 seater MPV is a better performer than the Toyota Innova Crysta. Mahindra claims that the Marazzo with new diesel powertrain delivers fuel economy of 17.6kmpl. In real world condition, it returns mileage around 10kmpl – 15kmpl. Mahindra says that the design and styling of the Marazzo 7 seater MPV is inspired by the Shark fish. It’s also claimed to have an aerodynamic design with low coefficient of drag. As mentioned in the beginning, Mahindra’s new MPV has been developed jointly by Mahindra Research Valley Chennai and Mahindra North American Technical Centre. The front fascia of the Marazzo has aggressive appeal, thanks to its toothed grille, projector headlamps with LED DRLs (daytime running lights), a big bumper with split radiator air-intakes, sculpted hood, new fog lamp assembly and shorter overhangs. While the base model comes fitted with 16-inch steel wheels, the range-topping model has been assembled with 17-inch machined alloy wheels. At the rear end, the MPV sports a big bumper, mounted spoiler with stop light and LED taillamp enclosures. The Mahindra Marazzo is based on the company’s all-new architecture that’s claimed to offer the best-in-class ride and agile handling. The carmaker will use the same architecture in its upcoming SUV and crossover. Dimensionally, the Marazzo is the largest vehicle than other Mahindra cars. The Marazzo MPV comes in a choice of seven exterior colour options – Mariner Maroon, Shimmering Silver, Aqua Marine, Oceanic Black, Iceberg White and Poseidon Purple.

Interior of the new Mahindra 7 seater MPV comes loaded with several advanced comfort goodies. Some of its features have been carried over from the Mahindra XUV500. Features such as the newly-designed, dual tone (Black and Beige) dashboard with chrome detailing, digi sense, a large instrument cluster with a large multi-information display, large circular dials for tachometer and speedometer and leather wrapped seats and steering wheel are also on offer. For connectivity purpose, there is a large 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone applications such as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Initially, the infotainment unit was compatible to Android Auto only. The MPV has air-con vents for occupants of all three seats. Mahindra also equips the MPV with industry-first surround cool system that’s claimed to cool faster than others.

The Mahindra Marazzo comes with two seating arrangements – 7-seats and 8-seats. The 7-seater version gets captain seats for the second row and its last row of seat is accessible via flipping forward the captain seats. On the safety front, the new Mahindra 7 seater MPV gets dual front airbags and anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), reverse parking camera and sensors, ISOFIX and disc brakes on all wheels. All these fitments are standard across the carline. Mahindra also equips the vehicle with hill launch assist, multiple airbags and electronic stability programme (ESP). The MPV is claimed to meet all the safety norms. With the large dimensions and a long wheelbase, the Mahindra Marazzo offers good cabin space for seven/eight adult passengers.
