Mahindra & Mahindra, the homegrown UV maker has unveiled an all-new convertible SUV concept at the Delhi Auto Expo 2018. Called Mahindra TUV Stinger, the convertible SUV concept previews the company’s future design direction. This design will be seen on the future Mahindra SUVs and is claimed to be the most expressive design yet by the UV specialist. The convertible SUV concept features aggressive styling. It is equipped with flared wheel arches, big wheels, busy rear profile and sporty front fascia.
Besides exterior styling, the Mahindra TUV Stinger convertible SUV design concept also comes equipped with comprehensive futuristic connected technologies. The company also showcase visitors the development process of this design, starting from ideation, concept development, connected cars application and final design. It is based on the ladder frame chassis, which also underpins the TUV300 compact SUV. This has been an interesting concept as it is quite a challenge for a brand to develop a sub-4 meter convertible car on a ladder frame chassis. Though, a good response at Auto Expo 2018 could prompt the automaker to develop this SUV in future.

It is quite early to comment whether this convertible SUV would enter into production phase. If it happens, the model could be the most affordable convertible SUV in the market. Sits below 4 meter in length, the Kia Stinger would be benefitted with lowered taxes. We believe that the convertible SUV based future model could be priced around Rs 15 lakh. Based on the TUV300’s ladder frame chassis, the convertible SUV is powered by an upgraded version of the existing 1.5-litre mHawk diesel engine. In the current form, this engine is capable of producing 101bhp of power and 240Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox.

The new convertible SUV comes with aggressive styling, which previews the company’s future design direction. The profile of the Mahindra Stinger comes with bold lines, featuring thick character lines and chunky wheel arches. Upfront is a typical Mahindra-like grille with chrome treatment, nicely integrated projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights, large bumper with wider air-dam, C-shaped fog-lamp enclosure and skid plate.
The rear of the Mahindra TUV Stinger convertible SUV has a sloping roofline making it an SUV coupe. There ia s spare wheel on the boot as well.

The Mahindra TUV Stinger is a 3-door car that offers a seat for 4 adults. The concept also features a low-roof that gives it a sporty character. However, production model won’t see such design elements. It is based on the ladder frame chassis, which also underpins the TUV300. The cabin of the car is equipped with several technology advanced features including large display instead of instrument console, and a bigger touchscreen infotainment system with several connected car apps. Other features will include leather seats, multi-functional steering wheel, etc.
