The 2019 Yamaha MT-15 is the naked sibling of the new R15 V3.0 fully-faired model.

It is no secret that Yamaha is considering the global MT-15 entry-level sportsbike for the Indian market. In fact, the naked sibling of the R15 V3.0 sportsbike has been spotted testing for the first time on Indian roads. The new Yamaha MT15 is expected to be launched in the country in the second quarter of 2019. It will sit right between the Yamaha FZS and the R15 V3.0.

The MT15 naked bike shares the platform and mechanicals with the Yamaha R15 V3. It offers a bit less aggressive riding position compared to the R15, which is more sporty and track oriented. The 2019 Yamaha MT-15 is powered by the same liquid-cooled engine that powers the new R15 V3.0. While powering the R15, the 155cc, single-cylinder engine offers an impressive 19.3bhp of power and 15Nm of torque. This engine also comes with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA), which ensures decent low- and mid-range performance without compromising on the excellent top-end performance. Power is transmitted to the rear wheel via a 6-speed gearbox, and it also gets slip and assist clutch. Also See – 2019 Yamaha R3 Unveiled

While the international-spec model gets premium upside-down front fork, the India-spec model will receive a conventional telescopic unit at the front and monoshock unit at the rear. The bike will come with dual-channel ABS as standard.

The MT-15 shares styling cues from the bigger MT motorcycles, featuring bug-eyed LED headlamp, a muscular fuel tank, a slim tail section and all-digital instrument console The naked bike is expected to be priced slightly lower than the R15 V3.0. With exciting riding dynamics & high-end performance, this bike will challenge the bigger capacity motorcycles including TVS Apache RTR 200 4V and Bajaj Pulsar NS200.
