Upcoming New Tata SUVs – 8 New Models

Tata Motors has witnessed tremendous growth in the past few years. In fact, the home-grown automaker surpassed Hyundai to become India’s second largest carmaker in December 2021. In order to strengthen its market, the company has planned several new models including 8 new SUVs. Here’re key details of the upcoming new Tata SUVs.   

2022 Tata Nexon EV

The Tata Nexon EV has been dominating the electric car market in India. The automaker is reported to give a mid-life update to the electric SUV sometime this year. The 2022 Tata Nexon EV will have bigger battery pack and longer range than the existing model. If reports are to be believed, the updated model will offer a range close to 400km on a full charge. Minor cosmetic changes will also be made to the vehicle.

Tata Safari Petrol

Tata Safari petrol is currently in its final testing phase and is expected to hit showrooms in coming months. The new model could be offered with the brand’s new 1.5L turbo petrol motor delivering power around 160bhp and 250Nm of torque. Similar to the diesel version, the Safari petrol will come with the 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox options.

The Tata Harrier petrol model has been caught on camera multiple times. For power, it’s likely to use Tata’s new 1.5L turbocharged gasoline unit with manual and automatic gearboxes. It’s the same engine that will power the Safari petrol. Its power and torque figures will stand around 160bhp and 250Nm respectively. The Harrier petrol might be launched sometime this year.

Tata is reported to launch the Punch mini SUV with the 1.2L turbo petrol engine in early 2022. The motor produces a peak power of 108bhp and 140Nm of torque. The Tata Punch will also be introduced with the Altroz’s 1.5L diesel engine that’s good enough for 89bhp and 200Nm. The Punch CNG has been reported to launch sometime in 2022. It will come with the 1.2L petrol engine coupled to a factory-fitted CNG kit.

The home-grown automaker will also bring in the electric version of its mid-size coupe SUV in coming years. The model will be designed on the Nexon’s modified platform that will be capable to accommodate a longer wheelbase. It’s reported to come with the bigger 40kWh battery pack offering a range of over 400km.

Tata’s top-selling SUV – Nexon – is ready to enter into its new-generation in 2023. The new model will receive comprehensive design changes and a bunch of new features along with more refined engines. It’s existing 1.2L turbo petrol and 1.5L turbo diesel motors might be benefited with the mild hybrid technology, ensuring higher mileage. The new Nexon will underpin the Alfa platform that also does duty in Altroz hatchback and Punch mini SUV.

Tata Motors is ready to foray into the mid-size SUV segment in the second half of 2022. Codenamed Tata Blackbird, the upcoming SUV will be positioned against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and MG Astor. While its official launch timeline is yet to be revealed, the new Tata SUV is reported to arrive by 2023. It might be offered with the new 1.5L turbo petrol engine delivering power close to 160bhp and 1.5L diesel motor producing 110bhp.

According to a fresh media report, the home-grown automaker will re-introduce the Sierra nameplate in India in coming years. The SUV will return in an electric avatar underpinning the brand’s new ‘Born Electric’ platform. Just so you know, the Tata Sierra EV concept was previewed at the Auto Expo in 2020. It’s production version is reported to launch in 2025.
