Tata Motors recently rolled out its first micro SUV – Punch. The model lineup comes in four trims – Pure, Adventure, Accomplished and Creative – priced from Rs 5.49 lakh to Rs 9.39 lakh. These are introductory, ex-showroom prices. All variants of the mini SUV are powered by a 1.2L, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that can be had with the 5-speed manual and AMT automatic gearbox options. The gasoline unit returns a claimed power of 86bhp and 113Nm of torque.
The Tata Punch delivers fuel economy of 18.97kmpl with the manual and 18.82kmpl with the automatic transmissions. The automaker says that the Punch can do 0 to 60kmph in 6.5 seconds and 0 to 100kmph in 16.5 seconds. The AMT variants are exclusively offered with the traction modes.

According to a fresh media report, the company is planning to introduce the more powerful, turbocharged version of the Punch towards the end of February or early March 2022. It could be offered on higher trims only (Accomplished and Creative). The Tata Punch turbo will use the 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol motor that’s good for 108bhp and 140Nm.
It’s essentially the slightly detuned version of the Nexon’s turbo-petrol engine that makes 120bhp and 170Nm. The same powertrain does duty in the Tata Altroz iTurbo. One must note that the turbo engine is offered with the 5-speed manual gearbox only.
Compared to the Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite, the Tata Punch turbo will be more powerful. The Kiger and Magnite come with the 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine that pushes out a peak power of 100bhp. The motor is exclusively offered with the 5-speed CVT automatic gearbox.
Prices of the Punch turbo will surely be higher than its counter naturally aspirated petrol variants. At present, the Accomplished variants (MT & AMT) cost between Rs 7.29 lakh – Rs 8.34 lakh and the Creative variants are available within the price range of Rs 8.49 lakh – Rs 9.39 lakh. All aforementioned prices are ex-showroom.
