Tata Punch Diesel – What To Expect?

Tata Motors has recently launched the Punch subcompact SUV, which has been receiving overwhelming response from buyers. Sits below Nexon, the new Tata Punch is available in a single petrol engine option. It misses out on other fuel options including diesel and CNG.

Things could change as Tata Motors is testing the diesel variant of the Punch micro SUV. An undisguised test mule of the Tata Punch has been spotted at a fuel station in Pune which was filling up diesel.

Currently, the Tata Punch is offered with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 85bhp of power and 113Nm of torque. This engine features an automatic engine start/stop function and two drive modes – City and Eco. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT.

Tata Punch Diesel Specs?

It is expected that the Tata Punch could source the 1.5-litre diesel engine from the Altroz hatchback. Both models are based on the same Agile Light Flexible Advanced (ALFA) architecture. This engine churns out 89bhp of power and 200Nm of torque. For trasmission duties, the small SUV could get a 5-speed manual or an AMT.

Punch Could Get A Turbo Petrol Engine?

Tata Motors could also introduce the turbo version of the Punch petrol. It could get a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that powers the Altroz. This engine produces 109bhp of power and 140Nm of torque, and is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Tata Punch Diesel Expected Launch & Price

The company is yet to make an official announcement on the launch of the Punch diesel. However, Tata officials have said that they are considering alternative fuel options including electric, diesel and CNG for the Punch micro SUV. It is expected that the Punch diesel could arrive in 2022. The vehicle could cost around Rs 1 lakh premium over the petrol versions.

It is available in 4 trim levels  – Pure, Adventure, Accomplished and Creative. The small SUV is priced at Rs 5.49 lakh for the base model and Rs 9.09 lakh for the top-end variant. Prices are introductory and will be valid up to December 31, 2021.

The new Punch has received a five star rating in global NCAP crash test. It received  5 stars for adult protection and four stars for child occupant protection in Global NCAP’s latest #SaferCarsForIndia crash tests.
