Next-gen Tata Nexon: New Platform, More Features

Tata Motors has recently launched the new Punch micro SUV, which has received an overwhelming response from buyers. If reports are to be believed, the Punch currently commands a waiting period of around 6 months. The homegrown passenger vehicle manufacturer is now planning to introduce a range of new electric vehicles including the Altroz EV and the Punch based micro electric SUV.

Not just EVs, Tata Motors is also working on next generations of the Nexon and the Tiago twins. The next-gen Tata Nexon is likely to be introduced by 2023, as the current model was introduced in early 2017. The new model will come with all-new styling, better equipped cabin and more refined engine and gearbox combinations.

New Platform

Tata Alfa architecture

The next-gen Tata Nexon will be based on the new ALFA (Agile, Light & Flexible Architecture) platform that also underpins the Altroz and the newly launched Punch. This platform is versatile enough to accommodate different body styles and different powertrains including petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric.

New Engine Options

The all-new Nexon compact SUV is likely to be offered with more refined engine options. It is likely to get a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine and the 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine. The engines could receive a mild hybrid tech, which should help Tata to achieve higher efficiency. Moreover, the hybrid tech will make the new Nexon compliant with upcoming stringent CAFE and updated BSVI emission norms.

New Design

The next-gen Tata Nexon will come with all-new styling elements; however, it is most likely to retain the SUV-coupe like design. This design is liked by many, as the SUV constantly achieving close to 10,000 sales per month. The new model is likely to get all-new split headlamp unit with LED DRLs on top and main headlamp on lower bumper. Adding to it, the SUV could get bigger alloys, new LED tail-lights, and sloping roofline.
