Tata Motors will launch the Gravitas 7-seater SUV, HBX micro SUV, Altroz EV, Altroz Turbo and Harrier Petrol within 1 year

Tata Motors, the homegrown automaker will launch 5 new cars and SUVs in the Indian market in the next 1 year. The company has officially announced that the Gravitas 7-seater SUV and the HBX micro SUV will be launched in FY 2021, which is April 2020 to March 2021. While the Gravitas 7-seater will be launched during festive season Diwali, the HBX based micro SUV will go on sale in the end of this year or early 2021.

Tata Altroz EV Specs

Buoyed by the success of Tata Nexon EV, the homegrown automaker is now readying the Altroz EV. The production version of the hatchback was unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo. The new model is likely to be launched in the first quarter of next financial year. It is likely to share the electric powertrain from the Nexon EV. The Nexon EV uses an IP67 certified 30.2kWh battery pack with a permanent magnet AC motor. It is likely to deliver a range between 250-300km. The company is working on reducing the cost of the Altroz EV and is likely to cost around Rs 10-11 lakh.

Tata Motor will also launch the Altroz Turbo variant post lockdown, around August 2020. It will be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine, which was unveiled at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. This engine is capable of producing 102PS of power and 141Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox. Tata is also working on an all-new DCT (dual-clutch transmission), which could be introduced with the Altroz Turbo at a later stage.

2020 Tata Harrier Review

Tata Motors has also started testing the Harrier petrol version, which suggests that the launch could take place before the end of this financial year. It is expected that the SUV will be powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which is likely to produce around 150bhp of power and close to 250Nm of torque. This engine will also power the Gravitas SUV. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

Talking about the Gravitas, the new SUV will be the brand’s second model based on the new OMEGA platform. It is basically the 7-seater Harrier with slight design changes and longer body to create more space inside the cabin. It will be offered with 6- and 7-seat options. The SUV will rival the Mahindra XUV500 and the MG Hector Plus. Powering the Gravitas is a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine producing 170bhp and 350Nm. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

Upcoming SUVs Under 8 Lakh

The Tata HBX will be based on the ALFA modular platform that also underpins the Altroz premium hatchback. It will directly rival the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and the Mahindra KUV100 NXT. The near production model was unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo. It will be powered by a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder Revotron petrol engine that produces 85bhp and 110Nm of torque. Both manual and AMT versions will be on offer.
