The Tata Hornbill is reported to make world debut at the 2020 Auto Expo.
It is no secret that Tata is working on a mini SUV – Tata Hornbill (X445). The mini SUV will be based on the brand’s all-new Alpha platform, which will debut on the upcoming Tata 45X concept based premium hatchback. Speculations are on rife that the Tata Hornbill mini SUV will be launched in 2021-22.
Prior to its official launch, the first spy picture of the Tata Hornbill have hit the web-world. The report further claims that the mini SUV will make its global debut at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo. Not just the micro SUV, Tata will also showcase the H7X 7-seater SUV at the biennial event.
The company is also working on a premium sedan, which is also likely to make its debut at the 2020 Auto Show. The Tata Hornbill SUV will rival the likes of Mahindra KUV100 and Maruti’s new model based on the Concept Future S.
Internally called X445, the Tata Hornbill micro SUV will share styling cues with the upcoming 45X hatchback. Though, it will have high riding stance, more aggressive looks and higher ground clearance. Going by the spy picture, it is visible that the small SUV is taller than the 45X hatch and has upright pillars to create more space inside the cabin. The roofline is relatively straight compared to the sloping roofline in the hatchback sibling.
The Tata Hornbill mini SUV is likely to share its engines with the Tata Tiago, which includes a 1.2-litre Revotron petrol and a 1.05-litre diesel. However, these engines will be tuned to meet the upcoming BSVI emission norms. Tata could also opt for the detuned version of the 1.5-litre Revotorq diesel engine to power the Hornbill.
