India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki had showcased the Future S Concept at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. The company will launch a small car based on this concept. It is expected to be Maruti’s new entry-level model. Here we bring you 5 interesting facts you should know about this small car –

– Crossover-ish Profile

The concept previews the company’s future compact car, which will come with SUV-ish design and high ground clearance. The new model will sit below the Vitara Brezza, and will preview the company’s new design direction for future SUVs in India. This model has been indigenously designed and developed in India by Maruti Suzuki’s R&D team.

Likely to be called Maruti Zen

If media reports are to be believed, Maruti Suzuki is planning to revive the ‘ZEN’ nameplate in India. The production version of the Future S concept based mini SUV could be called the ‘Maruti Zen’. Just to jog your memory, Maruti Suzuki Zen was first launched in India in 1993 and later discontinued in 2010. To be slotted below the Vitara Brezza, the new mini SUV will rival the Mahindra KUV100 and Renault Kwid 1.0L.

– Suzuki’s New HEARTECT platform

Like the new generation Suzuki models, the new compact SUV will be developed on the company’s new-generation HEARTECT platform. This platform also underpins the new Swift and Dzire. It is claimed to be lighter, stiffer and safer, which makes helps the automaker to achieve higher fuel efficiency.

– Clutter-free Cabin

– Engine and Launch details

The company is yet to reveal the engine details of the upcoming mini SUV. It is likely to be powered by a 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine producing 82bhp and 113Nm of torque. The company could also opt for a 1.0-litre K-Series petrol engine.

Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that the new model will be launched in early 2019. It is expected that the launch could take place in the first quarter of 2019.
