Tata 45X Concept Front

Production-ready Tata 45X is reported to launch in August, 2019.

Tata Motors has shown a steady improvement over the last few years – all credit goes to its futuristic design language and new business strategy. The new breed Tata cars are a far cry from the company’s old models whether its design, comfort and drivability. Aiming to keep up the momentum, the home-grown carmaker introduced the new-generation IMPACT Design 2.0 philosophy at the Auto Expo 2018. Underpinning the Tata 45X premium hatchback concept and Tata Harrier SUV (H5X concept), the new design language looks bolder and edgier than its first generation.

The carmaker claims that the “Tata 45X is an amalgamation of futuristic design, advanced technology, intuitive connectivity and great performance”. If reports are to be believed, the production version of the 45X concept will be christened ‘Tata Aquilla’. The all-new 45X premium hatchback concept is the Tata’s first car to use the new AMP (Advanced Modular Platform). Described as ‘Agile Light Flexible Advanced’ architecture, the new platform is said to be compatible for different lengths, widths, wheelbases and suspension setups.

Interestingly, the new Tata 45X hatchback has been designed jointly by Tata’s three design studios (Pune, Italy and UK) with inputs from Jaguar Land Rover. Most of the design and styling bits of the production-ready hatch are likely to be carried over from the concept. The futuristic interior theme will surely witness some important practical changes along with several advanced comfort goodies and safety fitments. The new Tata hatchback will lock horns against the Maruti Baleno and the Hyundai Elite i20, which are currently dominating the segment.

Maximum Rs 8 lakh

Interestingly, the new 45X hatch will be the first Tata car to be built on new advanced modular platform (AMP) that’s compatible to multiple wheelbases, lengths, widths and suspensions. The new architecture will be quite economical for the carmaker to develop new cars of different sizes. In the premium hatchback space, the new Tata car will face challenge from cars like Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20. The new Tata hatchback will be designed on the AMP (Advanced Modular Platform) that will also underpin the company’s upcoming mini SUV (Tata Hornbill) and a mid-size sedan. Tata’s new-generation IMPACT Design 2.0 philosophy made its global debut with the all-new 45X hatchback and the H5X SUV concepts in February, 2018. With its bold and futuristic design, the Tata 45X created a buzz among visitors at the Auto Expo. Tata Motors claims that the production-ready version of the hatchback will be close to the 45X concept.  Though, it will receive some design and styling changes.

The 45X concept based car will surely be the best-looking car in its segment. Similar to the hatch’s concept version, the front fascia of the production-ready model will feature more prominent three-dimensional ‘Humanity Line’ underlining a digitally-inspired front grille and dual ultra slim LED headlamps. The front grille seems to be inspired by the Hexa SUV. The projector headlamps are integrated with LED daytime running lights (DRLs). Its fog lamp assembly has a new ‘tri-arrow’ pattern. Design bits such as strong fenders and the class-leading wheel sizes with flared wheel arches will further enhance its road presence. Unlike the concept that was equipped with five-spoke alloy wheels with 235/35 Z R20 tyres, the production version might get the split four-spoke alloy units. Read – New Tata Sedan To Challenge Honda City

What’s interesting in the hatchback are the unique rear door handles which are integrated to C-pillar. We have already seen similar pattern in the new Maruti Swift and the Mahindra KUV100 NXT. The tapered roofline, plastic cladding around the body and pronounced wheel arches add more its sporty side appearance. The rear profile of the hatch will also look sporty with features such as full LED taillights, surfboard mounted wing cameras and a sporty spoiler. The taillamp assembly might look different from the concept. The slingshot line with a chrome finisher adds more its futuristic look. Read – New Tata Sierra Might Make A Comeback In A Modern Avatar

Dimensionally, the Tata 45X premium hatchback concept measures 4,253mm in length, 1,850mm in width and 1,451mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,630mm. Compared to the Tiago, the wheelbase of the 45X is around 230mm longer. The hatchback’s concept was assembled with 235/35 Z R20 front and rear tyres. Though, it might be different from the concept.

Tata 45X Interior

Tata Motors has kept all of the details filed away in its top-secret archives. If we have to guess, it’s likely to share some of its interior design elements and features with the Nexon compact SUV. Though, it will sport a more futuristic design and have more premium appeal than the latter one. Since it will come as premium offering, the material quality and fit and finish are also likely to be of top-notch.

The latest spy pictures reveal that the production-ready model will feature the segment-best, a large free-standing touchscreen integrated on the conventional T-shaped centre console. The hatchback’s infotainment system might be compatible to smartphone apps such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It might also support navigation system. Read – Tata Harrier 7-seater SUV Will Be More Powerful Than 5-seater Model
