Tata 45X is, certainly, one of the major highlights of the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. Besides showcasing its premium hatchback, Tata Motors has brought the all-new SUV H5X at the biennial event. Both the models underpin the brand’s new IMPACT Design 2.0 philosophy that marks a shift to bolder designs. The all-new premium hatchback is Tata’s first car to use the new AMP (Advanced Modular Platform). The carmaker claims that the new architecture is compatible to different lengths, widths, wheelbases and suspension setups.
Interestingly, the new Tata 45X hatchback has been designed jointly by Tata’s three design studios (Pune, Italy and UK) with inputs from Jaguar Land Rover. Some of the key highlights of the car include more prominent three-dimensional ‘Humanity Line’, fog lamps with ‘tri-arrow’ pattern, segment-leading wheel sizes and strong fenders. For people not in the know, the 45X will come as a replacement to the Bolt hatchback. However, it’s a more premium offering than the latter one. This new hatchback will lock horns against the Maruti Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20 and Honda Jazz.

Tata’s all-new premium hatchback – 45X – has made its official debut at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. Interestingly, the hatchback also marked the debut of Tata’s new AMP scalable platform featuring monocoque design. The carmaker has already confirmed that its new AMP platform based models will begin rolling out in 2019. Since the 45X is currently in its concept phase, it will take good one year to hit showrooms. As mentioned in the beginning, the new 45X hatch is the first Tata car to be based on new advanced modular platform (AMP). Compatible to multiple wheelbases, lengths, widths and suspensions, the architecture will be quite economical for Tata to develop new cars of different sizes. Furthermore, the local manufacturing will help the carmaker achieve competitive pricing. In the premium hatchback space, the new Tata 45X will be stacked up against the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Honda Jazz and Hyundai Elite i20. Tata’s new IMPACT Design 2.0 philosophy has made its debut with the all-new 45X hatchback. Carrying bolder design, the car features more prominent three-dimensional ‘Humanity Line’ underlining the front grille and headlamps. Its fog lamp assembly has a new ‘tri-arrow’ pattern. The strong fenders and class-leading wheel sizes with flared wheel arches enhance its road presence. The grille seems inspired by the Hexa SUV. The projector headlamps are integrated with LED daytime running lights (DRLs).
Moving to the sides, the first thing you will notice is the C-pillar integrated rear door handle. The same pattern is also seen on the new Maruti Swift and the Mahindra KUV100 NXT. The tapered roofline, plastic cladding around the body and pronounced wheel arches further enhance its sporty side looks. At the rear, the car gets LED taillights and a spoiler. Most of the interior design bits and a pack of features have been carried over from the Nexon compact SUV. Similar to Tata’s new breed cars, the 45X hatchback has premium quality material, fit and finish. It gets a touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It is also compatible to navigation system. Other key highlights include a multi-layered design, a 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel, instrument cluster and Indian lattice-work inspired rear AC. Engine details of the new Tata hatchback are still under the wraps. Though, it is likely to come with both petrol and diesel engine options. Powering the petrol version is a 1.2-litre, turbo engine making power worth 108bhp and 170Nm of torque. On the other hand, the diesel version derives its power from a 1.05-litre, 3-cylinder VGT motor churning out a peak power of 108bhp and 260Nm of torque. Transmission choices on offer will include a manual and automatic unit.
Since the engine details are yet to be confirmed, it would be tad early to comment on its mileage figures. Though, it is expected to be high on fuel efficiency.
