After revealing images and details, Tata Motors has finally launched the Urban edition Hexa SUV in the country. Called Tata Hexa Downtown Urban Edition, the new model is equipped with several new features along with cosmetic upgrades inside as well as outside. The company claims that the new model sports 15 new features that give it a more premium and urban feel. The Hexa Downtown range starts from 12.18 lakhs (ex-showroom – Delhi) for the base XE model.

The new Tata Hexa Downtown special edition is available in limited numbers from November 3rd, 2017 onwards. The urban lifestyle model comes wrapped in a new Urban Bronze exterior finish. It is available in two packages – Absolute and Indulge pack. The SUV also gets a chrome package that adds to its premium treatment. Chrome embellishment is offered on the grille, sides and on the outside rear view mirrors. Adding to it, the headlamp and taillamp surrounds also finished in chrome. Other features include Downtown badging, side steps, new carpet set, wireless smartphone charging and a car care kit.

The Absolute package on the Hexa Downtown adds valuable components used in everyday urban life. Entry-level variants – XE, XM and XMA – of the urban edition model comes with chrome pack suit, new premium seat covers, wireless charging, side steps, carpet set and a car care kit. On the other hand, the Absolute pack on the top-trim – XT/XTA – comprises of wireless charger, chrome treatment, side steps, carpet set and a car care kit. The Indulge package on the base trims adds new seat covers and new 16-inch alloy wheels. The top-end variants are equipped with rear seat entertainment player, which is a Blaupunkt 10.1-inch infotainment screens. Additionally, it gets a dashboard-mounted heads-up display that gives speed limit alert, battery voltage and tyre pressure information.

The Tata Hexa Downtown Urban Edition is powered by the same 2.2-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-diesel engine that produces 156bhp and 400Nm of torque (150bhp and 320Nm in the XE variant). Transmission duties will be carried out by a 5-speed manual (XE Variant Only), a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic unit. The top-spec XT variant also gets an optional four-wheel drive system. The Downtown Urban Edition is being offered on the entire Hexa lineup that means the engine specifications of the SUV remains the same. The new edition is available with two engine options – 2.2-litre VARICOR 320 and 2.2-litre VARICOR 400. The former only available in the entry-level XE trim and produces 148bhp of power at 4,000rpm and 320Nm of torque between 1700rpm and 2,700rpm.

On the flip side, the 400 VARICOR engine churns out a maximum power output of 154.2bhp and a peak torque of 400Nm. While the 320 VARICOR engine is coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox, the powerful unit is available with two choices – a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. The range-topping XT variant gets optional four-wheel drive.

In terms of proportions, the Hexa Downtown is similar to the regular model. The SUV measures 4,788mm, 1,900mm and 1,785mm in length, width and height respectively. It has a long wheelbase of 2,850mm, which translates into a spacious cabin. The high ground clearance of 200mm makes easier to drive it through rugged Indian roads. It offers a boot space of 128-litres with all seats in position. Though, the boot capacity can be increased up to 671-litres by folding 2nd and 3rd row of seats.

The Hexa Downtown Urban Edition is a special edition version of the regular model, and comes with two packages – Absolute and Indulge. The SUV comes with several cosmetic upgrades to exterior and interior. Additionally, it gets several new features inside the cabin. This Urban Edition will be available in a new Urban Bronze exterior paint job. The company has added a lot of chrome touches inside and outside.
