Japanese automaker, Suzuki is all set to launch the next-generation Jimny SUV in the international markets. In fact, clear pictures and details have already been leaked on the web-world. Several media reports suggest that Maruti Suzuki could launch the new SUV in India. Latest report indicates that the SUV might launch in India as a lifestyle product and could be introduced as a replacement for the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy.
Speaking to autoX, CV Raman, Senior Executive Director (Engineering), Maruti Suzuki, said that the Jimny is a three door model and it is a narrow vehicle. What people want in India is a 5-door vehicle. However, he further commented that the SUV could be launched as a lifestyle product.
For people not in the known, Suzuki will initially launch the 3-door version of the Jimny in the Japanese market. However, certain reports claim that a five-door version could also be arrived in near future. Adding to it, Suzuki is also considering India as the production hub for the next-gen Suzuki Jimny. The new Jimny gets newly designed exterior and it appears completely different than the current car. Based on ladder-on frame chassis, the new model has the square-ish body and upmarket cabin. Some of the design highlights include circular headlamps, flat roofline, upright grille, flat bonnet, flared wheel arches and bumper mounted tail-lights, and tail-gate mounted spare wheel. The SUV will also be benefitted with Suzuki’s SmartPlay infotainment system with connected car applications, flat-bottom steering wheel and other features. The SUV will get standard AWD layout along with a low-range gearbox. The global model is expected to feature a 92bhp, 1.2-litre petrol or 110bhp, 1.0-litre Boosterjet petrol engine.
This year, Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch the new generation Ertiga and Wagon R along with the thoroughly revised Ciaz sedan. The company is also working on a bigger SUV (Creta rival) and an entry-level car based on the Future S concept. Besides, Maruti will launch its first electric vehicle in India in 2020.
