Tata Motors introduced the Harrier 5-seater premium SUV in the country early this year. With bang on pricing, feature-loaded interior and efficient engine, Tata Harrier takes on multiple SUVs right from Hyundai Creta to Jeep Compass and Mahindra XUV500. It will also face a tough competition from the upcoming SUVs in the near future. Here we bring you a list of top 5 upcoming SUVs that will challenge the Harrier SUV –

1. Kia Seltos

Kia Seltos SUV India

Kia Seltos SUV will be the first model from the Korean carmaker in India. Slated to launch in August, the SUV is likely to be priced from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom) that will put it in the same space as the Harrier. Ahead of its official launch, the carmaker has confirmed that it will come with BS6-ready 140bhp, 1.5L Smartstream petrol, a 115bhp, 1.4L T-GDI turbo petrol and a 115bhp, CRDi diesel engines. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed torque converter, a 7-speed dual-clutch and a CVT.

Expected Launch – August

Expected Price – Rs 10 lakh – Rs 15 lakh

 

2. All-New Maruti Suzuki Vitara

Maruti Suzuki is working on a premium SUV for the Indian market. To be based on the next-generation Vitara, the SUV might make its India debut at the 2020 Auto Expo. Rumour has it that the new might come with an all-new 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine that will deliver better performance during mid and high RPMs. There is no clarity whether the SUV will be offered with diesel engine option or not. In terms of performance, the Tata Harrier will have a clear edge over the Maruti’s SUV. However, Maruti could bet on fuel efficiency and pricing of the SUV.

3. New-Genertion Mahindra XUV500

Mahindra will give a major makeover to its highly popular XUV500 premium SUV. The next-gen model is likely to make debut at the 2020 Auto Expo, while its launch might take place in the second half of 2020. The SUV will be based on all-new monocoque platform that will make it stronger and lighter than the outgoing model. The SUV will witness comprehensive design and feature upgrades along with some major changes under the hood. The 2020 Mahindra XUV500 will receive a new 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine that is likely to produce close to 180bhp.

4. New-Generation Hyundai Creta

Hyundai’s best-selling compact SUV, Creta will receive a new generation model in 2020. The SUV’s new model will be larger, more powerful and better equipped with the current generation. Its design could be inspired by the China-spec Hyundai ix25. Reports suggest that 2020 Hyundai Creta will be available with 2 seating layouts – 5-and 7-seat. The length, width and wheelbase of the vehicle will also be increased. Similar to the Hyundai Venue, it might get advanced connected technologies including Hyundai’s BlueLink technology, a large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, internet-based features, etc. The SUV could also receive the modified version of the existing platform, which will be compatible with hybrid and all-electric powertrains. The 2020 Creta might also come with BS6-ready 1.5L petrol and diesel engine options.

5. New Mahindra Scorpio

The new-generation Mahindra Scorpio will also prove to be a tough contender for the Tata Harrier. The SUV’s new model will be based on the updated platform and receive significant changes inside and out. The carmaker will also improve safety standards of the SUV. The 2020 Mahindra Scorpio is likely to come with a new BS6-compliant 160bhp, 2.0L diesel instead of the existing 140bhp, 2.2L mHawk diesel motor. The new oil burner is said to be lighter and quieter than the existing engine. The SUV might also be offered with an automatic transmission and front-wheel-drive system.
