Tata Motors has recently launched the Harrier 5-seater premium SUV in the country on January 23, 2019. Despite being one of the biggest and most feature loaded SUVs in the category; the Tata Harrier comes with an aggressive price tag of Rs 12.69 lakh for the entry-level variant. With bang on pricing, Tata targets a wide range of SUVs including Hyundai Creta, Jeep Compass and Mahindra XUV500. However, the Harrier will have to face tough competition from the upcoming SUVs in the near future. Here we bring you a list of top 5 upcoming SUVs that will challenge the Harrier SUV –

MG Hector

MG Motors will officially enter into India in mid-2019. The first MG model for the Indian market will be a premium SUV, called the MG Hector. The SUV will directly rival the likes of Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson and Tata Harrier. It will be available with 2 engine options – 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol and 2.0-litre turbo-diesel. This model will be available in both manual and automatic versions.

Expected Launch – June 2019
Expected Price – Rs 16 lakh – Rs 22 lakh

Kia SP2i

Korean automaker, Kia has started trial production of its first model based on the SP concept at its production facility in Andhra Pradesh. The SUV will be positioned against the Hyundai Creta SUV. It is expected to be priced between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 15 lakh, which will also put it in the same space as the Harrier. Moreover, Kia will also introduce the performance-oriented version of the SP SUV which will come with more powerful engine.

Next-gen Maruti Suzuki Vitara

Maruti Suzuki is working on a premium SUV for the Indian market. To be based on the next-gen Vitara, the SUV is expected to make debut at the 2020 Auto Expo. The SUV is reportedly to be powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines. In terms of performance, the Harrier will have a clear edge over the Maruti’s SUV. However, Maruti could bet of fuel efficiency and pricing of the SUV.

Next-gen Mahindra XUV500

Mahindra will give a major makeover to its highly popular XUV500 premium SUV. The next-gen model is likely to make debut at the 2020 Auto Expo, while the launch could take place in the second half of 2020. The SUV will be based on all-new monocoque platform, which will be stronger and lighter than the outgoing model. The SUV will also receive a new 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine that is likely to produce close to 180bhp of power.

Next-gen Hyundai Creta

The current best-selling compact SUV, Hyundai Creta will receive a new generation model in 2020. The next Creta will be larger, more powerful and better equipped with the current model. The report claims that the next Creta will be available with 2 seating layouts – 5-and 7-seat. The SUV could also receive the modified version of the existing platform, which will be compatible with hybrid and all-electric powertrains.

Expected Launch – End of 2020
Expected Price – Rs 12 lakh – Rs 17 lakh.
