Maruti Future S Concept

We informed you earlier that Maruti Suzuki will launch the Ertiga based XL6 Crossover in the country on August 22, 2019. Apart from the crossover, the Indo-Japanese brand is also readying 2 new SUVs for the Indian market. The first model will be a micro SUV based on the Concept Future S, which was previewed at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. Called the Maruti S-Presso, the mini SUV is reportedly to be launched in September 2019.

The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso will be sold exclusively through the Suzuki’s Arena dealership network. The new model will be the brand’s smallest SUV in the market. To be positioned below the Vitara Brezza compact SUV, the new S-Presso mini SUV will challenge the likes of the Mahindra KUV100 NXT and the Renault Kwid. The Maruti S-Presso micro SUV will sport an upright SUV-like stance. It is likely to come with around 180mm of ground clearance, which is good enough to handle the Indian road conditions.

It is expected that the Maruti micro-SUV will sport “Celerio-like” interior with dark-grey scheme and colour-coded interior bits. The report claims that the S-Presso will come with a Mini-esque dashboard layout with a digital speedometer. There will be a large touchscreen infotainment system mounted inside the circular enclosure. The new Maruti Suzuki S-Presso will be based on the lightweight Heartect platform that also underpins the Wagon R. The mini SUV is likely to be powered by a BSVI compliant 1.2-litre petrol that also powers the Wagon R, Swift, Ignis and the Baleno. The vehicle could also receive a factory-fitted CNG kit. This engine produces 103bhp of power and 138Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque convertor automatic. Unlike the regular model, the new XL6 will be a six-seater crossover with captain seats for all 3 rows.
