Mahindra XUV300 Beats Nexon To Become Safest Indian Car – Global NCAP

Mahindra XUV300 has become the third made-in-India vehicle to get a 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP. The subcompact SUV has secured a 5-star rating for adult occupant protection and a 4-star rating for child occupant protection. Compared to the Tata Altroz and Nexon that scored 29 and 25 points respectively, the Mahindra XUV300 has scored the highest 37.44 points out of a potential 49 points on child occupant protection.

Similarly, the XUV300 has scored 16.42 points out of 17 points on adult occupant protection. The Tata duo, on the other hand, achieved 16.13 points (Altroz) and 16.06 points (Nexon). With such impressive results, the Mahindra XUV300 becomes the safest tested made-in-India car in Global NCAP.

The test results show that the Mahindra XUV300 provided ‘good’ head, neck and knee protection for adult occupant. While the chest protection for the front passenger rated as ‘good’, the driver protection was ‘adequate’. The SUV’s structure and footwell area were stable too. As per the Global NCAP crash test report, the Mahindra XUV300 showed “the lowest level of intrusion and best side-impact crashworthiness performance of any model tested so far”. The SUV offered ‘fair’ and ‘good’ protection for the 3 year old (forward facing) and 1.5 year old child dummy (rearward facing) dummies respectively.

The reason behind missing the top score on child occupant protection is said to the poor ISOFIX markings and a three-point seatbelt for the middle seat passenger. The Mahindra XUV300 gets ABS with EBD, dual airbags, front seatbelt reminder and pretensioners, cornering brake control, all disc brakes and a passenger airbag deactivation switch as standard safety fitments. The range-topping W8 (O) is exclusively offered with 7 airbags, heated ORVMs, front parking sensors, a three-point seatbelt for the middle seat passenger and seatbelt reminders for all passengers.
