Further expanding its product lineup, Lexus has introduced its global luxury hybrid sedan – LS 500h – in the Indian market. Available in three trims – Luxury, Ultra- Luxury and Distinct – the sedan has been priced at Rs 1.77 crore, Rs 1.82 crore and Rs 1.93 crore (ex-showroom) respectively. At this price, the Lexus LS 500h will lock horns against the BMW 7-Series, Audi A8, Jaguar XJ L and Mercedes-Benz S-Class. First previewed at the 2017 Detriot Motor Show, this new Lexus flagship sedan is the company’s first car to feature 3.5L twin-turbo gas V6 engine with new Lexus Multi Stage Hybrid System. The LS 500h is the fifth Lexus in the country, and the other four include – RX 450h, ES 300h, LX 450d and NX 300h.

The all-new LS 500h hybrid sedan, which is current in its fifth generation, has been priced at a starting price of Rs 1.77 crore in India. The carline is spread across three variants – Luxury, Ultra-Luxury and Distinct – priced at Rs 1.77 crore, Rs 1.82 crore and Rs 1.93 crore (ex-showroom, Pan India) respectively. Lexus’ flagship hybrid sedan – LS 500h uses the brand’s new Toyota New Global Architecture – TNGA platform. This modular unibody platform also underpins several Toyota and Lexus models. The architecture is claimed to be optimise weight distribution and ensure a low center of gravity that improves the overall stability and handling of the car. Furthermore, the high rigidity chassis helps its new multi-link suspension setup to offer better comfort and handling performance.

In terms of design and styling, the new LS 500h shares resemblance with its global previous model. This four-door sedan sits on a long wheelbase (3.1m) and has a low, coupe-like profile.  Upfront, the saloon features signature Lexus spindle grille and sleek headlamps with arrow-shaped daytime running lights (DRLs) giving it an aggressive look. Interior of the new LS 500h has ultra-luxurious feel and appeal. While the front seats are 28-way adjustable with heating, cooling and massage functions, the rear seats have multiple power adjustment system with a 48-degree recline. The cooling, heating and massage functions are also offered for rear seats passengers. The sedan also comes with an optional rear seat arrangement with an extending leg ottoman. The Lexus LS 500h comes with an advanced safety package that includes the world’s first intuitive pedestrian detection system with active steering. Lexus LS 500h India Specifications

Power source of the new LS 500h includes Lexus Multi Stage Hyrid System that combines a 3.5-litre V6 Dual VVT-i (intelligent variable valve-timing) engine and two electric motors. The combined power output of this motor stands at 350bhp. The DS direct fuel injection system helps the powertrain to provide optimum combustion and fuel efficiency. Features such as lightweight and narrow roller rocker arms and low friction timing chains not only reduce friction losses but improve engine efficiency as well.

Globally, the new LS 500h is available with both all-wheel drive (AWD) and rear-wheel drive (RWD) system. Though, the India-spec model comes with Lexus’s new E Four electric AWD drivetrain system only. Feeding power to the wheels is a 10-speed e-CVT transmission with improved artificial intelligence shift control. With hybrid powerplant, the LS 500h can accelerate 0-60kmph in 5.4 seconds.
