Maruti Ignis Alpha AMT version is available in both petrol and diesel engines priced at Rs 7.01 lakh and Rs 8.08 lakh, respectively

Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest carmaker has finally introduced the automatic gearbox on the top-end variant of the Ignis hatchback. As a reminder, the Ignis was already being offered with an AMT unit, but this gearbox was only available in the mid-level Delta variant. Now, the Ignis top-end Alpha trim also get AMT gearbox option. While the petrol AMT is priced at Rs 7.01 lakh, the diesel Alpha AMT cost Rs 8.08 lakh (both prices are ex-showroom Delhi).

The Maruti Ignis is available with two engine options – a 1.2-litre K-Series petrol and a 1.3-litre MJD diesel engine. While the former is capable of producing 82bhp and 113Nm of torque, the oil burner is good for 75bhp and 190Nm. A five-speed manual gearbox is available as standard, while an AMT gearbox is now offered on mid and top-end variants.

The top-end Ignis Alpha trim is equipped with several high-end comfort and convenience, and safety features. Feature list include start-stop push button system, keyless entry, defogger, 15-inch alloy wheels, projector headlamps, LED daytime running lamps, automatic climate control and height adjustable drivers’ seat. This small crossover-hatch is equipped with 7-inch SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and reverse parking camera and climate control. Speaking on the launch of Ignis Alpha AMT, R S Kalsi, senior executive director, marketing and sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “Our premium urban compact vehicle, the Ignis, has been created for millennials, a one of a kind brand in the Indian market. Automatic Gear Shift (AGS) on the Ignis, so far offered in the Delta and Zeta trims, has been widely appreciated by customers and accounts for 27 percent of Ignis sales. We are now offering AGS in the top Alpha trim as well. We expect this to strengthen brand Ignis and enhance the popularity of AGS amongst millennials.”

Before launching Ignis Alpha AMT, Maruti Suzuki had launched the CVT equipped version of the Baleno hatchback. It is also the second Maruti product to feature automatic gearbox in both petrol and diesel guise. The Ignis small car directly rivals the Hyundai Grand i10, Mahindra KUV100, Ford Figo and others in its league.
