Maruti Suzuki wrapped the Auto Expo 2018 on the successful node. While the all-new Maruti Future S concept and the e-survivor electric SUV concept galore visitors’ attention, the new-generation Swift went on sale. The latter one is doing pretty good for the Indo-Japanese carmaker in India. Now, the carmaker is planning to introduce performance-oriented version of the hatchback. Called the Maruti Swift Sport, this hot hatch is currently in its third generation and had its world debut at the International Motor Show in September, 2017 in Germany.
Similar to the new-gen Swift, the 2018 Maruti Swift Sport underpins the new ‘HEARTECT’ platform making it lighter and stiffer than the previous model. The hot-hatch makes use of a 1.4L Boosterjet petrol engine sourced from the European-spec Vitara S and S-Cross facelift. As mentioned above, the third generation Suzuki Swift Sport had its world premiere at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Though the carmaker hasn’t yet confirmed the hot-hatch for the Indian market, it is reported to hit our shores sometime this year. We will update you as soon as MSI reveals its launch details. Carrying a sporty body kit, Maruti Suzuki’s new hot hatch features new suspension setup and a larger capacity 1.4L Boosterjet engine. Designed on Suzuki’s ‘HEARTECT’ platform, the new Swift Sport sits lower, and has wider and aggressive stance than its current global model. This new platform, which has already been used in the Baleno hatchback and new-gen Dzire sedan, will make the hot hatch 80kg lighter, faster and more rigid than the current one. It will also improve handling and driving dynamics of the vehicle. Furthermore, the company has tweaked torque-to-weight ratio of the car.
With an aggressive body kit, the new Swift Sport looks more refreshing and sportier than the current model. Face of the car has been revised with new front bumper with a lip spoiler and gloss black grille. Accentuating the side profile are the flared wheel arches with 17-inch alloy wheels and the newly styled C-pillar. At the rear end, the 2018 Maruti Swift Sport features a black diffuser with twin exhausts, a stop lamp in the centre and gloss black finish on the rear bumper. Interior of the Swift Sport will be more premium than the regular Swift, thanks to its high quality material and better fit and finish. For the connectivity purpose, the hot hatch gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth connectivity. There is a 4.2 display placed between the dials and music steaming. Features such as new leather sport seats with contrasting stitches, improved switchgear, new flat-bottomed steering wheel and lots of racy red trims add more to its sporty appearance. The hot hatch will also get a more responsive steering and stiffer suspension setup. Compared to the second-generation model, the 2018 Maruti Swift Sport sits 15mm lower and has 50mm longer wheelbase. With respect to safety, the hot hatch gets ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake-force distribution) and disc brakes as standard. Other safety equipment include six SRS airbags, dual sensor brake support, forward detection system, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, high beam assist and weaving alert function. Major update will be made under the skin. The 2018 Maruti Swift Sport will source its power from a new 1.4-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. This powertrain is essentially the upgraded version of the K14C Boosterjet unit. It is capable to deliver a maximum power output of 138bhp, while generating a peak torque of 230Nm of torque. The new Swift Sport will be faster and more fuel efficient than the old model – thanks to its lightweight body built. For achieving better performance, Maruti might offer new suspension setup and sportier springs and dampers on the car.
