2017 Maruti Suzuki Swift Sport will derive its power from a 1.4-litre Boosterjet turbocharged petrol engine.
After attaining the top spot in the UV (utility vehicle) and passenger vehicle segments, Maruti Suzuki aims to tap the performance hatchback space in the Indian market. The Indo-Japanese carmaker introduced the performance-oriented model of the Baleno hatch – Baleno RS – in March 2017. Now, the company is planning to bring in the performance version of its highly popular hatchback – Swift, which is all set for a generation change next year. Called the Maruti Swift Sport, this hot hatch is ready to enter into its third generation model.
According to a latest carandbike report, the Maruti Swift Sport will make its way to India along with the Swift Hybrid. Both the models could be put up on display at the 2018 Auto Expo in February. Though, Maruti hasn’t yet made any official announcement on the same.
The new Swift Sport made its global debut at the International Motor Show in September, 2017 in Germany. The engine and feature details of the performance hatch were leaked prior to its official unveiling.

The third generation Suzuki Swift Sport had its world premiere at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show in September. In India Maruti Suzuki will first launch the new-generation Swift hatchback, followed by the Swift Sport. Both the cars might make their public debut at the Delhi Auto Expo that will be held in the second week of February 2018. Reports in media suggest that the Maruti Swift Sport launch could take place in late 2018. We will update you as soon as MSI reveals its launch details. Maruti Suzuki’s new hot hatch will come with a sporty body kit, new suspension setup and a larger capacity 1.4L Boosterjet engine. These attributes will surely make it more expensive than the regular Swift hatchback. Built on Suzuki’s ‘HEARTECT’ platform, the new Swift Sport sits lower, and has wider and aggressive stance than its existing global model. This new platform, which has already been used in the Baleno hatchback and new-gen Dzire sedan, will make the hot hatch 80kg lighter, faster and more rigid than the current one. It will also improve handling and driving dynamics of the vehicle. In fact, the company has tweaked torque-to-weight ratio of the car.
With an aggressive body kit, the new Swift Sport looks sportier and refreshing than the current model. The car gets new front bumper with a lip spoiler and gloss black grille at the front fascia. The flared wheel arches with 17-inch alloy wheels and the newly styled C-pillar further accentuate its sporty appeal. Interior of the Swift Sport will be more premium than the regular Swift, thanks to its high quality material and better fit and finish. The hot hatch gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth connectivity. There is a 4.2 display placed between the dials and music steaming. The hot hatch will also get a more responsive steering and stiffer suspension setup. Compared to the second-generation model, the new Maruti Swift Sport sits 15mm lower and has 50mm longer wheelbase. For safety provision, the hot hatch gets ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake-force distribution) and disc brakes as standard. Other safety equipment include six SRS airbags, dual sensor brake support, forward detection system, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, high beam assist and weaving alert function. Under the hood, the Maruti Swift Sport will house a new 1.4-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. This powertrain is essentially the upgraded version of the K14C Boosterjet unit. It is capable of generating a maximum power output of 138bhp, while yielding a peak torque of 230Nm of torque. Power will be channelled to the wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox. The new Swift Sport will be faster and more fuel efficient than the old model – thanks to its lightweight body built. For achieving better performance, Maruti might offer new suspension setup and sportier springs and dampers on the car.
