Maruti Suzuki Stops Second-gen Swift Production To Make Way For New Model

The third-generation Swift’s production is already underway at Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat based facility.

The Indo-Japanese carmaker has finally taken the second-generation Maruti Suzuki Swift off the production line to make way for the third-generation model of the hatchback. It was only a couple of days ago the 2018 Swift was spotted during its commercial TV shoot. Though, the company is yet to make official announcement about its launch date. It is reported to make its debut at the 2018 Auto Expo. The new-gen Swift’s production is already underway at Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat based facility.

Swift Production Stopped

First launched in 2005, Maruti Swift entered in its second generation in 2011, followed by a mid-life facelift in 2014. With attributes such as sporty styling, feature-loaded cabin and efficient engines, the hatchback became an instant hit and gone strong day-by-day. Compared to the current-generation Swift, the new-gen model will get an entirely new design. Interior will see comprehensive updates with a pack of new comfort and safety features. As far as engine is concerned, the new Swift is likely to retain the existing engine setup – i.e. 1.2 K-series petrol and the Fiat-sourced 1.3 Multijet diesel. While the former makes 82bhp at 6,000rpm and 113Nm at 4,200rpm, the latter one churns out 74bhp at 4000rpm and 190Nm of torque at 2000rpm.
