Toyota aims to push strong hybrid vehicles, before entering into electric car segment in the country. The Japanese automaker has also planned multiple new models including facelifts, new-generation updates and all-new products. Here’s a brief on the top 9 upcoming new Toyota SUVs and MPVs.
Updated Toyota Urban Cruiser
Reports suggest that the new Toyota Urban Cruiser will arrive after the second-generation Brezza that’s due for May 2022. Most of its updates will be similar to the new Brezza. The SUV is likely to come with a new, bigger infotainment system with wireless smartphone connectivity, a semi-digital instrument cluster, electric sunroof, wireless charging system, a SIM-based connected car suite, paddle shifters and many more goodies. Updated Toyota Land Cruiser LC300
The new Toyota Land Cruiser LC300 is reported to hit showrooms in the month of August. The brand’s flagship SUV will be offered with the 3.3L twin-turbo diesel and 3.5L twin-turbo petrol engine options. While the former makes power worth 305bhp and 700Nm of torque, the latter is good for 415bhp and 650Nm. Both motors will come with a 10-speed automatic gearbox. Based on the GA-F platform, the SUV will use high strength steel that will provide better stiffness and make it lighter. The 4X4 drivetrain system will be standard across the model lineup. Toyota Mid-Size SUV
Toyota will foray into the highly competitive mid-size SUV segment in coming months. Codenamed Toyota D22, the model will be co-developed with Suzuki and is likely to debut by mid 2022. Its trail production is reported to begin at the company’s Karnataka based facility. The new Toyota mid-size SUV will underpin the TNGA-B platform and it’s reported to be offered with two petrol engines (one with mild hybrid tech and one with strong hybrid system). Toyota Rumion MPV
Toyota Kirloskar Motor has already trademarked the name ‘Toyota Rumion’ that will be used for the re-badged version of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. It’s likely to launch in coming months. Similar to the newly-launched Ertiga, the Rumion will come with the 1.5L K15C Dualjet petrol engine making power worth 103bhp and 136.8Nm. The motor has two injectors per cylinder and start stop technology that improve its overall performance and fuel efficiency. Toyota Belta
Toyota Belta, the re-badged Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, is reported to see a release in coming months. In terms of design, feature and engine mechanism, the model will be exactly similar to the Ciaz. Though, the Japanese carmaker will make a few cosmetic changes to distinguish it from its donor car. It will carry a newly-designed grille featuring Toyota’s signature badge. The Belta will be powered by the same 1.5L. 4-cylinder petrol engine with SHVS mild hybrid system. The setup delivers a claimed power of 103bhp and 138Nm of torque. Toyota C-Segment MPV
The Japanese automaker is working on a new C-segment MPV that will be placed against the newly-launched Kia Carens and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. While its official launch timeline is yet to be revealed, the MPV likely to come sometime next year. It will be a 7-seater family car designed on Toyota’s localized DNGA modular platform that will also underpin Toyota’s upcoming mid-size SUV. It would be quite early to comment on its engine setup. New-Gen Toyota Innova Crysta
Toyota Innova Crysta is ready to receive a generation change sometime next year. The MPV will witness significant exterior and interior updates along with a hybrid powertrain. While the automaker has already confirmed that the new Innova will get hybrid tech in Indonesia, it’s likely to happen with its India-spec model. New-Gen Toyota Fortuner
The company is working on the third-generation Toyota Fortuner SUV, which is currently in its testing phase. The SUV’s new model is reported to debut towards the end of this year. With the generation change, the Fortuner will receive several advanced features including ADAS (advanced driver assistance system), vehicle stability control, connected car features, and electric power steering. Toyota RAV4
Toyota is considering its global SUV – RAV4 – for the Indian market. In fact, the carmaker is testing the model in the country. Reports suggest that the Toyota RAV4 might hit Indian roads sometime in 2023. Here, it will come as a fully import unit and it’s estimated to cost around Rs 55 lakh – Rs 60 lakh. The SUV has been built on the TNGA-K platform and comes with a 2.5L, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated Atkinson cycle petrol engine with a 215bhp electric motor. It’s paired to an 8-speed eCVT gearbox.
